Re: Very Sad Decision To Make :-(

There's other ways to interact with your rats than free range time that my lot at least seem to value more, a quick 5 minutes riding in my shoulder round the house one at a time whilst I do chores, chasing tissues accross the bars of the cage which they then get to drag in, and a few minutes being s...

Re: Rat pulling up cover during freerange..

I have to have a litter tray out in my free range area  but I recommend lino too, I use it in my cages and even in constant use it lasts about 5 months, so would last longer in a pen

Re: Lonely Rat

Try not to beat yourself up over it, hindsight is wonderful but never available to us early enough to help. Old age causes many of the symptoms you have mentioned and they can come on fast. Hazel was obviously happy with his companionship with you and you can never predict when the last day will be,...

Re: Rat Harness?

Tried harnesses with my first two rats, they hated it so much that I haven't even thought of using one since, although I do love the idea of taking my squishy bucks out on one to work off the extra grams

Re: Large hamster ball type things

I've used the balls in the past when I've been at someone elses house and the rats just needed a good run as well as the interaction. Most rats I've had wouldn't use them and would just sit and sulk, but my first two rats Willow and Pudding loved their's as an extra free range. If he will use it and...

Re: Avoiding 'favourites'

With having 10 rats I have 4 that aren't happy being handled but will put up with it. When I have time and if one of them is awake I pick them up and wander round doing chores with them on my shoulder just ignoring them, this seems to make them much happier than me insiting on a hug each free range ...

Re: Why is it important to change water? bottle improvisation

I've somehow got my rats emptying (or near enough) only one of their bottles each day, so I change one of them on alternate days... fresh in one, day old in another

Picture width

Hi guys, trying to post an obit but the site keeps telling me pictures can only be 650 pixels wide... I have no idea how to change them, or why they are too big in the first place as I havent changed anything on photobucket (don't know how to) So a very very thick person's guide for me on how to cha...

Regular Steaming Questions

My boys Merlin and Gandalf have ongoing resoy issues, currently their lungs are clear but they are still gurging from their noses and upper respiratory tract, I've got a steamer that I use with them. They're in the towel covered cage next to it for 15-30 minutes, with a water change for the longer s...

Re: Boys Vs Girls?

We've a cage of girls and neutered boys, and it's definately the boys that poop and pee anywhere but the litter trays  but the girls make up for it by chucking tissue and bedding everywhere... Had 20 odd girls over the years and they get in trouble more, need rescuing from situations more but ...

Re: Another problem - Not using one of his back legs

I think he might have sprained it as he does use it occasionally in the video. Is he still on metacam? If not it might be worth a dose today and a rest in a smaller cage overnight
