I like "just Kate" as a user name! (not for myself, obviously, that would just be wierd)

Re: Help please. ABs for tiny rat? (Lucian)

Well I called the vets on Wednesday evening to check the dose and the receptionist said she'd get a vet to call me back. I was then out from 6:15 until about 9:15. No message on the answerphone, checked and no missed calls  I love my vets but I was not happy. I called again (there's someone t...

Re: Which is your favourite hammock maker?

I voted for Fuzzbutt because I love their cute designs and fabrics. I would also very much like to vote for TRW, can it be added on? And although she doesn't sell them NickyE's too, she was kind enough to send some with ratty Jacob (before the possessed sewing machine episode  ) and my boys LO...

Re: Help please. ABs for tiny rat? (Lucian)

1/5th twice a day is a high dose, yep. Amdridh (adult, about 240-250g) gets 1/6 clava twice a day when she has a flare-up. And I was giving Arky (~480g then) 1/4 twice a day when she had her bitten foot. I'm glad I decided not to last night then! He weighed....drum roll......136g at the vets this m...

Re: Help please. ABs for tiny rat? (Lucian)

Vet agreed it is definitely an abscess, no "stalk" to any underlying tissue or anything. There's definitely a pin prick mark on it so hopefully it'll go down nearly as quickly as it came up. I'm glad I know what I do when she said "we'll put him on baytril" eek no! So we've come away with palatable ...

Re: Help please. ABs for tiny rat? (Lucian)

Thanks Vix. After talking to another FR person I've not given him ABs tonight. Vets said 1/5th of a clav twice/day but as my big solid boy was on 1/4 twice a day that seemed a lot. So I've bathed it tonight and have vets at 930 tomorrow. He's still lively as a box of eels and mad as a box of frogs.....

Help please. ABs for tiny rat? (Lucian)

Just come home tonight from delivering some rescues up to SecretPennell and gone in to check on rats. Lucian the minirat, my third the size he should be rescue has a lump on his neck at the front. I'm pretty sure it's *just* an abscess - he's so well and full of beans. I have 50mg clavaseptin tablet...

:(

Ripley-Roo has a fatty lump under her arm/on her side. It's not attached and it hasn't got any bigger since the vet saw it. This poor little family :( I hope Reuben is ok, keep us updated

Re: The importance of staggering ages

I do totally agree with all the sentiments and I have tried to do this, in part conciously, in part not. I have rats from 10 weeks up to 22 months. But horribly there's just no magic answer, if only there was. 18 months ago I went from losing one of my oldest ever rats - Melody who got to 3 years ol...

Re: Age of elective spays

Apart from my 1st two girls when I was still learning I've spayed around 4-5 months. The first 2 may have been a bit older. I've had 4 girls get to around 3 years old and no lumps, 2 girls get to about 2.5 I think, again no lumps Of girls who haven't lasted so long 3 had bad mycoplasma (my first gir...

Re: 2 of mine are being spayed today

As all of my girls have been (previously) pet shop and now rescues with unknown background I've always had them spayed. Rarely had any problems. Imogen burst her glued incision open but didn't seem bothered! I've had a couple that have reacted to their sutures, but generally everything's been good. ...
