Problem with wood is that It gets smelly quickly and it's hard to clean! A wipe clean glossed or plastic version would be so much better! I cannot believe how expensive that is!! It's mad!

It does sound as though he is in pain, I would try and get him to the vets as soon as possible. If you can't do that tonight then try and get hold of some children's Calpol to help ease the pain until a prescribed pain medication can be sought from your vet, I'm not sure of the dosage but I'll have ...

What do you mean by in the cage? Is it fully furnished? How quickly was the transition? When you transfer rats from introductions in a carrier/small cage it's usually advisable to put them in a bare cage which has been thoroughly cleaned (so that it becomes neutral territory), then if they are okay ...

Which vet did you use? If it's accessible I would definitely reccomend the LincVet practice on Wragby Road, ask for an appointment with Mr Way specifically as he has experience with rats!
