Re: An overview of the new forum

Thats a great idea !
Personally I was unaware of the whole thing because I have the bookmark set to the "new posts" page. In fact it was through the photo competition being postponed that I found out about it
That said, if even I can catch up, then theres fair hope for everyone else

Re: Upper resiratory

:luck: with Majeeka today. Ive been treating Rhinoa for over a week for upper respiratory. Theres no sound in her lungs, just lots of sneezing like its up in her nose. The vet said thats preferable to it being deep down in her lungs, which makes sense. Her sneezing seems to be reducing and hopefully...

Re: Upper resiratory

I had wondered about rats and allergies too, Im sure the hot weather isnt helping. I would be interested to know if there are any case studies on allergies in rats and how common it is, I only know of one rat myself... I suppose you could talk to your vet about a low dose of steroid and see if that ...

Re: Electric fans for keeping ratties cool?

Pure smile-generator isnt it  At first mine were like "wha ? where ? who ? zomg !" Oh, by the way, I found a nice solution to the ice cubes for bottles < if you have an Ikea nearby that is  It does work and they fit quite neatly into the bottle opening of a standard "classic" type bottle ...

Re: Sneezing and such

Hi Nathus, happy new ratties and welcome to FR :) Im not convinced this is just new home sneezing. Its quite correct that they tend to sneeze a bit on coming into a new environment, but if her general breathing sounds crackly and honky there might be more to it. Also if the poops "loose" that might ...

Re: Taking the middle out of the Explorer

Thats a good tip about the baby rattle rings, from the pics I see they go around the double-frame part where the middle level of the explorer would have been. Im know my current chin-clips wouldnt fit around that so thats fab. A question about the vertical tube... what is it from and what diameter i...

Re: Taking the middle out of the Explorer

:o Scattie youre a design genius, do you do living rooms also ?

I had considered this myself when I rebuilt the explorer a couple of months back. I just love that vertical tube / periscope thingy !
I'll have to "explore" this too and have a plan ready for my next week off.

Re: Electric fans for keeping ratties cool?

A bit cooler today at last :) So, yesterday I turned the mister on them and, after being a little spoked at first, they all came to enjoy it ! My as yet unnamed new ratty was the funniest as he would close his eyes and lift his head a way up then dash away and back again for more  Here he is: h...

Re: Electric fans for keeping ratties cool?

Surely the windhchill effect of a fan would be of benefit though. I know windchill is more to do with effective rate of heat loss, but wouldnt that help prevent overheating in the first place ? Even without sweating there is still thermal conduction, sweat just makes it more efficient right ? I like...

Re: long distance train journey for an old girly - will she cope

Well thanks everyone for the replies and advice. Its good to know that rail travel is not a major stresser for even old ratties. Some good tips there too, like giving the carrier a wee clean mid journey once theyve had a poop and pee ! So, now that Ive made myself happy that she'll be fine for the t...
