Re: how much blood = foul?

Ah, I really feel for you! In a couple of previous configurations my large group (7-9 girls) would live happily together, be harmonious for a few weeks and then suddenly one of 3 troublemaker does (not always the same one) would decide that she disliked one of the other girls (not always the same on...

Re: New and frequent choking episodes

One of my older girls, Ellie, had chronic resp issues and went through a period of panicky/distressing choking episodes and regurgitating slimy brown gunk. Our vet said it might be an inflamed larynx. Ellie was put on to Zithromax + Doxy and a long-term maintenance pred dose and responded reasonably...

Re: Pooing everywhere

Rather than tidying up whilst they're out, we leave it until after we've put them back. Unless it's a particularly squishy stinky one that they'd tread everywhere  If you clean up after them once they're back in the cage it's much easier to move around without having to be careful of them. As ...

Re: Best Probiotic

Not sure if this is what you're after, but my lot get Protexin sachets from the vet when they're on ABs. None of them have had stomach upsets even when they've been on seriously strong combos so I'm very happy with it. I dilute a large pinch with a drop of water on a spoon for the rat in question - ...

Re: need some advice - heartbreaking dilemma

Yes, the baytril dose sounds too low I'm afraid and I would go back to the vets if I were you. Our vet usually prescribes 0.1ml per 100g which I believe is fairly common - so a 300g rat would be on 0.3ml per day. Because of rats' fast metabolism it is usually believed to have better effect if it's g...

Re: Creating a challenging (weightloss) environment...help?!

I think some people have had success smearing yogurt or similar onto the track to entice ratties to get in and get moving. Haven't had to try it myself though, I've got extremely keen girls who are more likely to squabble for their turn! They like the Silent spinner and the Wodent wheel but none of ...
