Re: Intro help please!

If the older boys aren't bothered by the babies, and the babies are just being noisy I'd persevere and stick them in a hamster cage or carrier until they get over their noisy phase. The babies will soon realise that the biggies aren't going to hurt them, and should revert to being pingy babies again...

Re: Fresh kelp.... is it safe to feed ?

I'd probably go for the frond (the leaf part) rather than the stipe (the stalk), just cos it'll be easier to clean of anything growing on the outside (such as other seaweeds or animals), but both should be edible. Kelps are brown seaweeds and have large, long, flat fronds, with round stipes; wracks ...

Re: Post neuter intro - opinions (is it too soon?)

Moved them into the Freddy last night as the bottom half of the Brio was getting a bit :sickrat: , plus it's easier to put hammocks in the freddy, should we get to that stage  It's actually going quite well, Spike seems to be more relaxed around his 13 new friends, so I'll risk a hammock this e...

Re: Post neuter intro - opinions (is it too soon?)

Pickle by name, pickle by nature  . Twinny (RIP :( ) would be very proud - Pickle looks almost identical and is as completely incorrigible (spelling?!) as the Twinster :hearts:

Re: Post neuter intro - opinions (is it too soon?)

Checked on them all at lunch - Pickle is still trying to wind Spike up

Gave them all some frozen pineapple as it's quite warm - they just settled to eat it, no scrapping. I'm clinging to that as a good sign!

Re: Post neuter intro - opinions (is it too soon?)

He's in and it's relatively quiet in there (the bottom half of a brio as my other cages are in use with unexpected rescues), although Spike is refusing to snuggle up to anyone just yet :-? He is grooming some of the girls, albeit quite forcefully, and Alfie has been a very gentle enforcer when neede...

Post neuter intro - opinions (is it too soon?)

Spike was neutered on 11 July and I was planning to introduce him to the rest of the group tomorrow as I've got a 3 day weekend... that would mean it was 2 weeks and 4 days since his neuter. There are a few schools of thought about how soon it is safe to intro post neuter - 2 weeks or 3... thoughts ...

Re: tiny rescued rats and advice needed

I've just taken in 2 babies that were handed into my vets (they were dumped on a train...), they're also very tiny. Baby girl has just started to moult her baby fluff so I'm guessing they're 5-6 weeks-ish, but they're about the size of 'normal' 4 week olds :( Unfortunately there's a boy and a girl -...

Re: Agnus castus berries

Ta! :D I have to give her wet food regularly as she's anti-Dr Squiggles - so I might start with a couple each time and see what happens. It's worth a try at least! Now I've moved her upstairs away from the other rats she's much better, more relaxed etc. Last night she even settled down under my pill...

Re: what was the strangest thing you`ve found your rat eating?

Juno - skirting boards, paper Clover - spiders, but only the juicy end :sickrat: Twinny - paracetamol :o cue panic from me, absolute annoyance from her that I'd taken something so tasty off her (she was fine, but I did have to ring the vets to find out...) Grace - various cardigans and t shirts (als...

They look fab! It's giving me lots of inspiration for my soon-to-be three storey explorer (am picking up another explorer at the end of the month :D ).

Agnus castus berries

I've just bought some from RR for my mentalist rat-eater Thirteen - she's been spayed but still shows (quite dramatic) signs of aggression towards other rats and also has 'mini-heats' (I think the vet may have missed something... :-? )... Thought I'd give these a whirl before trying a standardised e...

Re: Mazey is trying to mount her mum!!

Mummy rat is in heat (does do this every 4-5 days - it's normal don't worry :) ) and baby rat is taking advantage of the situation to try and get a bit of dominant behaviour over on her mum  - mum will get her own back when baby comes into heat  . It's not a sexual thing, it's just part o...
