Re: Rat sucking belly in?

Just wanted to say that hunched posture and side sucking can be a symptom of pain, and doesn't necessarily have to be respiratory, but the metacam should help with that. Did the vet say what was wrong?

Re: My naked rat keeps licking himself?! (alittle graphic)

I'm afraid no amount of human company can make up for that of same species company. I love my rats, but if I were to only have rat companionship and never see or speak to another human again, I think I'd go a bit mad. With the greatest of respect, no-where in those 'five welfare needs' does it spec...

Re: Wetting beds and pooping on shelves =smells

I'm a mean ratty mummy, mine aren't allowed stinky shelves, I made them cage-spanning tea-towel hammocks instead, otherwise I was moving poos and wiping up wee puddles twice a day, and they still smelled!

Re: Advice needed - please help!

I did get babies to try and sort out my group dynamic when one of my originals was over-dominant. It worked until the babies grew up - then it was even worse, so the older one had his bits off, and then one of the 'babies' too (I think he was actually the main problem, but I was blinded by him only ...

Re: Rats and Post Traumatic Stress?

Just seen this. I've had rats sulk for a couple of days after big adventures or changes, but any longer than that and I'd be worried (the first time I nearly phoned the vet only for the boy in question to ping back to normal the second day), with the weight loss as well I think a vet visit to be saf...

Re: Advice needed - please help!

Sounds like Pebble is suffering from excess hormones. If Sock isn't being injured it could just be normal squabbles, rats do play fight a lot, but if you think he's being bullied and it's affecting his quality of life then it's an issue. The only real answer would be to have Pebble neutered, you'd n...

Re: Litter tray advice

http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/catalog/corner-litter-tray-ferrets-rats-white-p-473.html Clips onto the cage to prevent tips :) Because of the vertical bars on the abode the hooks might not be in the right place, I use elastic bands over the hooks and around outside of the corner of the cage to s...

Re: Nad-fairy

I just wanted to say that Nestor was exactly the same, he never really showed any signs of being aggressive, he'd be happily free-ranging one minute and then start digging and biting me. He calmed down with me really quickly (I had other issues in that one of my other rats had become afraid of him, ...

I've only had it injected once, on a PEW, he didn't get a burn.

Re: Odour?

What exactly do they smell off? Are they quite young? Babies are stinky but will grow out of it. Are they litter trained? Litter trays are easy to change every day or so, removing stinky poos. Other than that, how thoroughly are you cleaning, cos overcleaning can cause them to scent mark more. Um......

Re: Bad news about Timmie.... :-(

Just make sure you find a vet that knows what they're doing, ask how many similar ops they've done, etc.

I just have the one abode and a bale of ecopetbed (which I'm assuming is a similar size) lasts me about six months.

Re: Bad news about Timmie.... :-(

Ah, I hadn't seen your previous post. It does look like a tumour, doesn't it :( How is Timmie in himself? Is he reasonably healthy for his age in general? Plenty of rats come through operations just fine at that age as long as the right kind of anaesthetic is used (isoflurane, or another one I can'...

Re: they gave her ketamine!

Idiots! :angryrat: Hopefully if she made it through she will be ok. I *think* with things like that the greatest risk is that they just won't wake up, although, it depends on where they injected it, I'm not sure how they would even use it on rats :???: Good Luck, I hope she's ok, I'd phone them when...

Re: Excess saliva? (Plus some other issues - head tilt)

It could be baytril related, nasty tasting things can make them salivate, but if she can taste it I'd think she'd have stopped taking in in food? I don't really know I'm afraid. Sorry, I hope someone more helpful comes along soon.
Good luck x
