Re: Dexadreson oral dose?

Tilly was helped to the bridge this morning. I managed to get some dex into her at 2am this morning, but it seems it wasn't enough to help. She's not suffering anymore.

Dexadreson oral dose?

Tilly is not doing so well today, we suspect respiratory infection. She was on baytril but today vet has also prescribed septrin and dexadreson. She's getting 0.2 baytril twice a day Septrin half ml twice a day Dexadreson 0.2pm once a day. My question is this: is the dosage for the septrin ok? And w...

wizzyjo wrote:Im pretty sure that baytril should be at least a 14 day course. Also, if hes as bad as you say, he may be better with a combination of drugs, such as the baytril with doxycycline which can work really well for respiratory issues.
Yes, I think it's 14-31 days

Re: My poor Arnie

Awww sorry to hear that.
I've heard that galastop might be able to help reduce the size of the tumour. I dont have the information on it, but hopefully someone will be long shortly who does.

Re: My poor Arnie

I've had a couple internal abscesses which manifested as lumps. Vet operated to remove these and my girl has been fine. We recently discovered that she possibly has more and are treating with antibiotics as she is getting on a bit and we dont really want to risk surgery again. As long as they aren;t...

Re: Vets

When I moved to the area, i went with a local vet, but they were not very rat savvy, so I changed as soon as I found out about a very good local, but rat-knowledgeable vet. Certainly helps when trying out drugs that are not licensed for rats. The previous vet was not willing to prescribe anything ot...

Re: Possible PT or ear infection suggestions

Thanks guys, Major passed away peacefully on the OH's chest this morning. We were about to go to the vet to help her on her way but she couldn't wait. At least she isn't suffering anymore and has lots of friends to play with at the bridge. Doubt it was a PT, thinking it was either a stroke or ear in...

Possible PT or ear infection suggestions

In November I took on an additional ratty as her owner couldn't bare with getting and losing more rats. When she arrived she was very skinny, she's incredibly funny about her food and spits a lot of stuff out. She has always been a small rat, being originally a pet shop rat. I've mixed her reggie wi...

Re: Obsessively grooming wound

Hey Amzy, dont feel too bad. Sometimes the wound site does get infected. I've had this happen a couple times over the years, and one of my current girls is particularly prone after ops. The important thing is that you're aware and she's receiving treatment. We can beat ourselves up over these sorts ...

Re: Marbocyl dosage?

Correction, it was 0.3ml marbocyl, for 7-10 days. I'm not convinced that this was long enough though but I dont have a lot of experience with marbocyl.

Re: Marbocyl dosage?

Off the top of my head I think we gave Pip about .2ml a day. I'll dig through my old posts and see if I can find the dosage today for you. Pip weighs about 300g.

Re: wound opened post-lumpectomy

You could try using manuka honey on the affected area. I used this, with vet consent, when Pip's abscess ruptured and left a large area exposed on her rump (it also helped to get her meds into her as the little monkey refused to take them). IMO, the stuff is amazing, as it helped heal the area quick...

Re: wound opened post-lumpectomy

I've never seen anything like that before. It almost sounds like an abscess but you say no discharge. Weird. Could it be a reaction to the op or maybe just a pocket that previously held fluid, with the fluid having been absorbed but the space still there? Sorry, not much help or advice. Let us know ...
