Re: Mum wont stop feeding the rats...

I'd suggest feeding them less rat food, if she's going to feed them a lot of other extras and she ignores your requests to not feed them.

Re: Rex rats

I've had the odd rex who seems to get an irritated eye - usually because the eye has curled towards the eye.. therefore I've just trimmed the offending hair back and it's not been an issue. I've never had a rex with ingrowing eyelashes - nor heard about that issue before.. I've found hairless have a...

Re: Would this Blue have clotting issues?

There is no way of telling whether or not she has the clotting issue from a photo - although it was only ever in British Blues that the issue occurred. I would say it is unlikely these days that she would be decended from rats with the issue. There has been quite a lot of problems with Russian Silv...

Re: Would this Blue have clotting issues?

I had a very good vet try and get blood from a rats tail, and it just didn't happen. In the end they took blood from the jugular - but even then they can only really take just enough to do tests.

Re: Which is your favourite hammock maker?

TRW :D I've only ever had a couple of their hammocks, because I'm a poor student, but they last ages and the rats love them. I like the pink piratey one I have best.

I have a Kitsch N Sniff bucket that we won at a show and the rats like that too :D

Re: Fitting duettos in cars

I got a duetto in the back of my astra - but mine's a hatchback, you have to point the roof between the seats! The worst cage I ever got into my car meant that I could bearly drive, and there was certainly no room for passenger - it was a montana aviary.. i used it for a couple of weeks then realise...

Re: Colours... Help confirm please :-)

Himalayans are white as babies. You can't tell them from PEW/Ivory unless you know genetically that's what they are, until the points come through.

Siamese look like Siamese kittens.. they don't look like Champagne or Buff or any other colour.. don't know how to explain, they just are.

Re: 'pedigree' names

It is helpful having 'posh names' if they're going to be bred from, as it reduces the chances that the same name will appear on pedigrees if they're different rats. I get lots of pet homes who name their rats the same things, but chances are most breeders come up with different names because they're...

Re: Do British Blue Agouti's have Blue health issues?

Russian Blue is a different gene to British Blue, and therefore doesn't have the same 'weaknesses'

Re: Do British Blue Agouti's have Blue health issues?

I have found British Blue related varieties to be more prone to health issues. I also had a Russian Silver (british blue + russian blue) from a well established line who had blood clotting problems.

Tee hee 8)

Lindsei - I know it's a bit of a distance, but often there is the option of rat trains or meeting at shows :)
