Re: Advice on lice please? :-)

I stand corrected.

But I do think it's odd that I've always heard the dose should be repeated to catch the bugs in every part of their life cycle. And my (very rat-savvy) vet said so too. Hmmm... time to do some research, methinks!

Re: Advice on lice please? :-)

You need to apply it 3 times. So now, then again in a week, and then a third time a week later. And you need to scrub your cage thoroughly, disinfect it all, and freeze/ throw out any and all wooden things in the cage. Fabric things (like hammocks) need to be washed at a minimum of 60degrees, but pr...

Re: Changing rat's name?

It definitely depends on the rat, their age, and the name they already have. When we dopted John he was ove ra year old, and his name was Skillz. The name just didn't work for me AT ALL, so we called him John, and it suits him. Friemel was 2 when we adopted her, and we figured an old dame like her s...

Intro help please

Hey guys, I have 2 six week old boys here, whom I'm trying to introduce to my group of 4 lazy castrated boys. The little ones are behaving brilliantly, and being perfectly ratty. They groom everyone, creeping on their backs to groom bellies and faces. They're being perfect angels. I've had them here...

Re: Mango

It shouldn't do any harm. I would just make sure they don't get it again. :) It's not poisonous or anything. It's been linked to cancer and kidney problems in boys, which is why you're advised to avoid it.

Re: Avoiding 'favourites'

I loved all my ratties equally until Friemel arrived. She crept into my heart within just a couple of days, and becamse my heart rat. I miss her terribly. :( That doesn't make me love any of the other ratties any less, and it definitely doesn't mean they get more attention. But Friemel stole my hear...

Re: Shoe boxes

I you do make a castle/ fort, make sure you can reach the ratties wherever they go in it. Otherwise you could have a problem when playtime is over, and they're supposed to go back to the cage. And yes, I say this from experience. I had to almost destroy our fort to get the boys out after 2 hours!!!
