Re: what is going on?! (INTROS)

Could someone please advise me how to feed them together? I don't want to create a flashpoint and Melchy prefers to eat soft food... not suitable for scatter feeding...

Re: My old boy

I'd second Neotoma. Also Baby Rice is really good. My 30 year old veterat LOVES it. You can get it in the baby aisle at the supermarket. SeniorAid does this annoying thing of dripping everywhere so watch out if you put it in the cupboard!

Re: what is going on?! (INTROS)

Thanks :) The hamster cage was so darn uncomfortable for them (has an annoying wire ladder that you can't remove that meant they couldn't move more than a few cm) that I have moved them to the bottom of my Explorer with no ladders so they cannot move. They had one fight I head from the next door roo...

Re: what is going on?! (INTROS)

I kept them in the hamster cage for a few hours last night. They did settle, but I think the cage is too small for them. There was no room to put in water or food comfortably so I put them in their respective cages when I went to bed. Is the next stage putting them together in one of their cages? Wh...

Re: what is going on?! (INTROS)

I don't have anyone experienced nearby... :( . I've got them in the hamster cage as we speak. No problems to far, but Melchy is doing his 'i am ignoring the fact there is a rat here who wants to interact with me' thing! There's a lot of cleaning going on of themselves. Melchy is quite healthy; he ha...

Re: what is going on?! (INTROS)

Thanks, Jemma, I think Melchy knows what the other rat is asking for but refusing to do it?! If that makes sense. Like he is not happy being submissive. Do you know what I mean about him being an old rat and not wanting to cause upheaval for him?? It breaks my heart to see him bossed about by a newb...

what is going on?! (INTROS)

Hi, I've got a rat that I could potentially foster in as he is a lone buck staying with me at the moment and I have been trying to introduce him to my buck, Melchy. They have been in the bathtub a couple of times and Melchy walks around looking at me like 'help! get me out!' while the other rat foll...

Re: Abdomonal mass :0(

Hi there, Just wanted to say that my boy Melchior has had a similar thing. I noticed an abdominal lump on him about 8months ago and they did an aspirate test at the vets which revealed that it was a fatty lump. Those kind of tests arent one hundred per cent accurate but apparently abdominal masses t...

Re: old man with a few maladies...

have you heard of beaphar malt paste or nutrical? Mast paste is available from PAH and nutrical is available through the rat warehouse or your vets can order it in. both of those are very popular with rats and excellent for hiding meds in. mine have baytril soaked into a bit of bread and then with ...

Re: old man with a few maladies...

ETA: I think introducing him to a cagemate will be very beneficial long term, and the stress he will experience short term is certainly worth it. My Fargo was about 24 months when he lost his cage mate. And he was very depressed for a long time, as we couldn't find him a suitable cage mate. But we ...

Re: old man with a few maladies...

Thanks :D . Saw the vet today after my last exam (!) Melchy is on antibiotics for his abcessy thingies which the vet said she couldn't be sure whether or not it was a tumour or an abcess. She squeezed the one on his arm and managed to get a bit of pus out which I wasn't able to. She also gave me som...
