Mine have nothing at all (bar substrate, scattered feed and lots of water bottles) when they first go in together. Once they're all sleeping together I add a large open hammock.

I introducedt two boys at 2 years old to a pair of 4 month olds. It wasn't the easiest of intros, but the oldies looked after themselves and they became a very bonded group. One of them was the best alpha I had and taught the youngsters some very important manners. It also livened up my old boys loa...
I've had 10 in my XL for 10 days while I was on holiday and had no issues. I'd have no problem putting a couple more in as long as it wasn't for an extended period of time. I also have a Tommy 82 T3, but it's a bit of a fiddle to put up and doesn't seem to me to give a lot more space than my XL. It'...
Ask not-ginger - she has a very tilty boy (who is an absolute sweetie :hearts: ) I don't make any cage alterations for Roobarb. He's still very agile and active, just with a tendancy to fall off things! I just make sure I have no long drops but I'd do that even if he wasn't in the cage. He has howe...

I lost my first 3 rats (pet shop boys) very young. Two at 12 months (stroke and tumour) and the last at 15 months (also from a stroke).
and that includes those of us that can't register via the nfrs Why can you not register via the NFRS? I have no clue what the rules are so am just curious. I'm assuming it's because two people are working together from more than one address. NFRS rules state: Stud Or Rattery Registration Etiquette ...
The answer may be bribery. Get a warm wet towel and fold it, put it on the floor and put him on it with a bowl of something yummy. Enough to keep him there for as long as you want the abcess to be soaked. I've found (at least with food orientated rats) that they're so busy stuffing their face that t...

Firstly, I'm very sorry for your loss. :( Unfortunately, in all but a few exceptional cases, human company is not enough and cannot replace ratty company. You seem to want the best for your boy, and as you say he's very healthy, he's hopefully got a good amount of time left so I think ratty company ...
