Re: Vetbed

I used it to create a padded cat carrier (like a rat version of a padded cell) the other day as one of my rats was having siezures and was thrashing around :o  I know thats a horrible example but it helped her not to hurt herself.

The importance of staggering ages

As a fair few of you know since the 1st of June I have lost 7 rats. I'm not sure whether this post is for my benefit (to offload) or whether it is to actually highlight the real issue of having a vet fund/staggering age groups/the issues surrounding rescue. I knew I was in for a string of losses due...

I always buy mine from rat rations as I can buy my other bits and bobs there also :D

Not sure where is cheapest for postage and the cost of the bag though?

Pretty sure Septrin is 0.1ml per 100g of rat. Same as Baytril =]

Re: 10-12 Month Old Girly Blood Spotting From Vagina

I'd like to highlight the importance of getting to a vet asap in the morning. I lost a girl today whom nearing the end was bleeding from her vagina. I lost her before I could get to a vet in time. My girl was started on ABs last Thurs as she was a little 'off' however only started bleeding today. Li...

Re: GMR.... What about GMC??

I am currently in a 'pick a cage.. Any cage you like' phase. In the house I currently reside in there is 1 SRS, 1 single explorer, 1 double explorer, 2 furet plus, 2 freddy cages, 3 ruffys, 1 Mary, 3 tanks, 2 critters and 2 hammy cages ;) Doesn't help that I live with someone as rat mad as me ...

Re: Help! New cage/fighting problems.. (Word heavy sorry!)

Scrub the tiny cage out, pop all 5 in with nothing but food, water and substrate and leave them in there until they snuggle up together - don't feel mean! Then move them into a bigger cage and add cage furniature one item at a time, nothing closed, just open. You don't need the tunnel for the rats t...

Re: Number of rats/ wheels

How many does Amzy? Giving mine 2 wheels isn't happening till they're installed in the explorer - no way would I be considering it re space and things in the long chin. I wonder how Jemma does it, although I guess that is with only 4 rats.... Jemma, layout photo(s) with 2 wheels please! :D 14...

Re: Number of rats/ wheels

I have alot of young, feisty and lively girls in my explorer. They have a silent spinner and they love it. I am contemplating getting another one when I extend my explorer. I think it'd eat up alot of space in my current explorer =/ x

Re: Euthanasia methods?

I was wondering whether a small pawprint type carrier could be 'modded' into a gas chamber. So they could be put into a small and familiar carrier with a familiar hammock in it which would stress them less and then if all the holes were sealed apart from one where you could feed the gas tube in hop...

Re: Euthanasia methods?

For clarity myself and Jude used to use the same vets so the PTS's we've experienced were at the same practice. The two methods I saw were the same, but handled differently by each vet. 1st - the rat was put into a fairly large 'gas chamber' and she continued to gasp for air. It took a while for her...
