Re: I think my rattie is going blind

Blind isn't a big deal for a rat. Lola, my ancient girl, is blind now and it makes almost no difference to her. Yes, she sometimes grabs my finger rather than the bit of biscuit, but she lets go pretty quick if I eeep at her. Most of the time, she gets it right, though! She finds her way round the c...

Re: Introducing new rats to older girls

My old girls absolutely adored the two baby girls I got from secretpennell. It gave them a new lease of life and it was lovely to see Lola, my mummy rat, curling up with "her" babies again. :hearts:

Re: Intros - progression into larger cage?

Yes - with one of the intros I did, they were on the sofa for about ten minutes and then straight into the SRS and not a squeak out of them. Another intro was a bit more hairy. They started off in the Freddy and then I put them into the top half of the SRS and there was a bit of a ruck, so back into...

Re: Introductions after cagemate's death...

I'd think about getting two more ratties, rather than just one, then you won't be left with a lone rat again. Baby boys should be easy to intro. My older (neutered) boys adored the babies. I'd think about the possibility of girls, though, because my experience is that mixed sex groups are generally ...

Re: Advice with babies

I've just seen - it is a lovely cage. My little girls were happier in a smaller cage until they found their feet ... then they adored the space in the big cage. Your little ones are just gorgeous ... :hearts:

Re: Advice with babies

It sounds to me like those little ones have got you and your OH wrapped round their little ratty fingers! They've got you feeding them by hand and they're not really bothered with their rat mix, because they're getting shredded wheat, noodles and nuts. Oh they're good ... they're really, really good...

Re: Healthy Rat Weight

I've got 23 rats and they are the most amazing combination of shapes, weights and sizes. The boys are generally bigger than the girls, but Rosie is the size of a small mountain and so can be spotted, along with the Great Wall of China, from space. Mei (who is known to her friends as Maybug, because ...

Re: Mum wont stop feeding the rats...

Ah Liverpudlian mum! I was at university there and one of my mates lived locally. Whenever we went round, his mum would feed all of us. Fantastic! Don't suppose I could just move in ... How about trying to persuade her to give them bits of vegetables or fruit, rather than more fattening things. Then...

Re: mixi bit me ):

Retrolemons is right. If a rat bites because she wants to hurt you, you really, really know about it. It is a rare thing, though and what your rat did wasn't that at all. One of my pink eyed white girls will nip like your rat did if I put my hand in and she doesn't realise - it's because her eyesigh...

Curled up tail

One of my baby/young rats (Munchkin, from Secretpennell) is absolutely obsessed with running on the wheel (they have got a big Silent Spinner). She loves it. She's a very active little rat and, when she is out, belts around - up and down the stairs is her favourite. When she runs on the wheel, she k...

Making cardboard rat toys

A colleague at work has brought in a big bag of cardboard rat toys that she has made for me. She found one of those thick cardboard inside rolls that they use in carpet shops and her dad cut it into smaller lengths. The ratties are going to love these. The only thing I am thinking is that they are s...

Re: My rats just had there first fight :(

Don't worry! These things happen. As long as your rat is alright and seems happy, everything will be fine. My big cage of girls plus one neutered boy are normally fine, but every once in a while, all hell breaks loose. There is squealing and kicking and the substrate comes flying out. I rush over an...
