Re: Caring for oldies

My two eldest are 29 months at the moment and are only starting to show their age now. Honey is looking a wee bit more sparse in the hair department and Bramble looks like she's only a year old! I have had to rethink my cage layouts as they aren't quite as agile as they used to be, where as before i...

Re: Discoloured eye HELP!

Do you have a picture? Many moons ago i had a rat with very dark red ruby eyes, which i thought were black for months! Its not unheard of for rats to have two different coloured eyes, could it be just in certain lights that you can see it? I would have thought if there was a problem with it the vet ...

Re: Rat with food allergy?! any experience of this

Clover never had any problems until a good few months into her life - she was fine when she was wee, which is why i assumed it was mites initially, but none of my other rats had any symptoms which is why it took the vet and i a while to work it out! I developed allergies to cats when i was about 16 ...

Re: Rat with food allergy?! any experience of this

Yes, I have experience with ratty food alergies. My darling Clover (RIP) had terrible scabs and sores, vet ruled out mites and lice, after much trial and error (and much to her upset!) we discovered she was lactose intolerant and it was her yoggies which were making her all sore and itchy. Occasiona...

Re: Rat Fell and possibly broke his back

Myfynwy that is excellent advice.

Let us know what the vet says, I really hope it isn't as serious as it looks. You should think about putting some carefully hung hammocks in the cage so there isn't a long drop like that, should stop something like this happening again.

Good luck at the vets x

Re: Rat in Collar

If he has the collar on its likely he won't be able to get about very well - and climbing will be out of the question, which isn't such a bad thing if he's recovering from surgery. I doubt he will hurt himself, have you set his cage up so he can get aound without climbing? When my Brambles had a col...

Re: Found wild baby rats. What to do?

I did some volunteering at a local wildlife hospital and we took in all types of animals, I never actually saw any rats while I was there (apart from a wild one that lived in the pigsty - i called him Templeton ;-)) but we did take on pigeons and squirrels and as far as i know they are considered ve...

Is it still swollen today? Can you post a pic for us to have a look at it for you? (I know how hard it is to get pics of babies though!)

Re: Baytril Dosage?

Yes, I've had to change my strategy to 'mixing with nommy' from good old 'hold n squirt' as 0.25ml is way too much to just squirt into her mouth, she got it mixed in with baked beanz on a spoon this morning and she licked up every drop - so all is good! She hasn't made any weird whooping noises and ...

Re: Baytril Dosage?

Thanks I'll just stick with the dosage he's given me and carry it on a wee bit longer, he gave me 10ml so i should be able to make it last well over a week if I'm careful and don't waste any...
