Re: Rats in heat?

Well, females come into heat every 5 days or so, it may be that they are trying to establish who the boss is. It is nothing to worry about, it's a natural thing for them to do and I would see no need to even think about keeping them apart, but to be aware of the no blood no foul rule :D Depending on...

Re: I think my rattie is going blind

If he's ruby eyed, his eye sight is bound to be poor anyway. It might be that you had something yummy on your hands? Or you smelt nice. There is a certain hand wash that my lot go crazy for and grab my hands  Does he have any signs of cataract at all? if not, then it might just be as he's gett...

Re: Im a grandmother

I have to echo not giving the babies back, more than likely there is someone near you with spare cages and help. You'll need to make sure the babies can't get out of wired cages, or can't fall from heights. If the boys where still in the cage of time of the birth you will need to be prepared that mu...

Re: Decided to castrate!

If he's hormonal for the sake of the others as they clearly aren't happy, I would give it a couple of weeks to settle, no more than three I think. Although, never had to do a hormonal castration before (and hopefuly never will). I think you'll be able to free range for company, although I'm not the ...

Re: A question of poop...

Expect stress/confused poos for no more than a week after you get them.
If they are babies, because of the extra protein they will smell more than say adults/oldies with less protein.
The extra smelly and loose poos will go away with time though :)

Re: Electric fans for keeping ratties cool?

an easy way to keep them cool without forking out is tiles, or making your own rice bag and sticking it in the freezer :D
