Re: free ranging

I used to free range them in the bathroom so I could try that again. They would try to hide somewhere but at least they were out of the cage. I changed to free ranging in my room because I felt it was more exiting for them as there are more things in there. We found that generally to start with they...

Re: free ranging

I put boxes and tunnels out, but my two boys don't even look at them, as soon as I put them on the floor they shoot up the cage and sit on the top. Last night when I was free ranging and they were both sat on top of the cage, I decided to pick them up and but them in a box of the floor because I tho...

free ranging

When I let my rats free range, only one of them, Izzy, comes out of the cage. The other four all prefer to stay in the cage. When I take them out, they will climb straight back in again. If I shut the cage doors, my two boys will climb to the top of the cage (an explorer) and sit there until they ca...

Re: matted fur on chin

I tried to clean up her chin when we got back, and it looked ok, but when I checked on her again she had blood on it again and on her front legs. I've cleaned that off to, but i can't see where it is all coming from! Can abscesses be so small you can't see them? Where can I get pain relief from? I d...

Re: matted fur on chin

The vets thought an abscess has burst. we have a weeks worth of baytril, would it be worth giving her it for longer? She is still off her food, eating only little nibbles, but the vet said that it's probably stress and she will perk up soon. She is already a bit more active than she was this morning...

Re: matted fur on chin

I can't get a clear picture, everytime I hold her in a way I can take a picture of her chin, she struggles and I don't want to stress her out.

matted fur on chin

My rat Esme was asleep this morning in her circus so I left her, but she was still hiding in there about 10 minutes ago so i took her out. She has a matted gooey chin, and has a lot of porphyrin around one eye that she sometimes half closes. I gave her a yoggie drop and she held it for ages in her m...

Re: helping with whiffy rats!

My dad complains about my rats smelling as well sometimes but I can't smell it, so I know how you feel! Baby rats smell worse than adults so if they are young it could be their age. I found that tap a drop is amazing, and even though you only get a small bottle of it, you only need a drop of it on a...
