Nails getting stuck in hammock

I watched one of my rats get her nail stuck in the hammock she was trying to bite her foot to get free, I now think blood I found awhile back may be from breaking nails when stuck.
Anyone else had experience of this? is there a certain material that is better to prevent getting caught up.

thanks

Rat using jenNy shelf for weeing

My rats use the litter tray to poo and seem to wee on the shelf, which doesn't have anything absorbent on it.
I have put a sheet of newspaper on it but is there anything I can use which will be absorbent and can be used on the shelf?

thanks

Re: question re scared ratties

I'm having this issue. I will pick them up and put them outside but they just try to go back home, ive only had them a few days but they are adult rescue rats. Should I just leave the cage door open alot or just pick them up and put them outside the cage?

Re: Rats and Cat

I think that if the cat goes near and one of the rats nips him, he will not be doing it again! Is it best for me just to watch over them and see what the cat does with the rats in the cage. They won't be left alone with each other but at night the cat will have access to the room with the cage altho...

Rats and Cat

Hi,
Anyone got any tips for keeping rats safe in a household with one cat, the cat has seen the rats but the rat did not look very impressed. Don't want any accidents or the rats to feel threatened if they can smell the cat.

Thanks
