Re: advice wanted

Or from B&Q this stuff - enamel paint safe for use on childrens toys. Spay probably good for large flat surfaces and paint for cage bars.

Re: Balding rattie

Hi, our oldest rat is getting a bit thin on the hair front all over but thats age, shall try linseed - oil or seeds? One of ours has a small patch of patchy fur, she's agouti and her fur is in perfect condition elsewhere, i'm assuming its just over grooming but doesn't seem to be growing back. Don't...

Re: Long Lived Ratties

Hi, We've had 5 rats (still got three). The two blues (one pet shop [Libby] and one rescue [Rosie]) died at about 18 months. Is there a history of blue rats not doing well at avoiding tumors? Out of the remaining three, two are rescue and the 'sister' of the pet shop rat (our first two, we were naiv...

Re: Boys with abscesses forming under neck

Hi, in humans, abcesses have walls that antibiotics don't tend to get through hence we get meds with clavulanate to break down the wall - dunno if this is the same in rats - ask a vet? Also i think it depends how deep the abcesses are and how they heal, if they burst and heal leaving a space under t...

Re: helping with whiffy rats!

Hey, 'Tap a drop' i find is really good. I put some on my (wifes) car cabin air filter and it works a treat when rat moving. It is a small bottle of odour neautralising liquid, you put a drop on something that the rats can't get to and it will help mask the nasty smells What sort of diet do you have...

Desperate for advice constant biting

Hi, We woke up this morning to find one of our rats constanly walking in circles (she's on phenobarbital to control seziures) we didn't give her the morning dose and took her straight to the vets, who said as we suspected that it was probably a PT. :-(. but gave her a shot of Steroid and us some to ...

Re: Metacam for rats hamsters etc

My vet gave us that too which is nice of them as it saves alot of money. He works on 4mg per KG for rats(and the solution is 1.5mg's per ml) - ie a 350gramme rat would need 0.1ml's of the stuff. Please note the syringe supplied with the 'for dogs' version is in kg not ml's so ask your vet for a 1ml ...

We thought that on the male front and have throughly checked, they did smell rather male wee wise but they've been washed. She doesn't seem to try to fight them just turns her rear to them ...
