Re: getting a new friend for tess or not

I hope I didn't give the impression that rescue rats are a nightmare or anything, I just mean with kittens from a good breeder you know they've been well handled since birth, whereas even if a rescue is well handled etc. you still don't know how it was treated in it's previous home, and may have beh...

Re: Poo and Pee all over the place

My boys were doing this a lot, the best thing to do is to get some tissue and pick up any poos you can see and place them in the litter tray, and try to change the bedding and wipe down surfaces to remove the odours of poo and pee as often as possible. The cleaner the rest of the cage is and the mor...

Re: getting a new friend for tess or not

I'd reccomend looking into any currently available kittens from a breeder before looking at rescues. Kittens from a breeder are more likely to have a more calm temperment and be well handled, which will make introing a bit easier. Whereas with rescues you never really know what they'll be like. Re: Help - how to get one rats weight up??

Have you tried Nutrical or Nutristat? They (they seem to be the same product, I don't actually know of a difference between the two other than Nutristat being slightly cheaper) are great for rats you need to encourage to eat. It's very high in calories and vitamins, and you only need to give a pea-s...

Mine are called Charlie Brown and Moomin.

Re: what to feed?

You should definately consider a shunamite-type diet. It'll sound a bit complicated at first, but it's all worth it. My boys love the variety, I can't imagine ever feeding them prepackaged rat food ever again.

Re: What toys?

Yeah, the thing about wheels is, unless they've had a wheel around since their kittenhood, they're unlinkely to use it. They do seem to teach eachother though. Good toys to get are toys that make them work for their food. I have a metal skewer-type thing that veg etc. can be stuck onto. I also have ...

Re: elderly rat...

Have you tried giving him wet food occaisonally? I know they're usually very enthusiastic about this, and I think it's a good way to build up their weight/strength.
