That depends more on your email provider than the forum (the forum sends them out instantly). Check your spam mail though, just in case!

Re: Substrate- how necessary?

What cage are you using at the moment? You may find that once they move into the SRS it doesnt smell as much anyway because its so big it wont be as concentrated. I didnt used to use any substrate, I just had fleece on all the levels and I had to clean it twice a week because it just held the pee an...

Re: Emergency rat plans

The carrier is right next to the cage and in there I've got an old dr squiggles tub that if full of food that I change every couple of weeks - its enough to last about 3 or 4 days, theres an empty water bottle in there also. These are literally survival plans incase of a fire, get them out and feed ...

Re: whats the best way of introducing new rats ?

I do think its very important that you establish if you are correct in your suspicion of one of your girls being pregnant. I dont know the details of how the situations come about but there is obviously an issue somewhere. I certainly wouldnt add boys to the group if theres a possibility of one of y...

Re: Case for the emergency vets?

It sounds like what one of my boys used to get, his airways would get blocked so he couldnt breath properly. He'd totally pancaked but restless aswell, he kept moving about trying to get comfy then crash out every few seconds. The retching you describe sounds exactly the same as him. The first coupl...

Re: This may be a stupid question...but...

When I got my explorer I filled it straight away, they were a little daunted at first but were fine. Personally I would keep the newly castrated boy out for a few days so he's not climbing about.

Re: Rattie bully?!?

I get the impression from what you've said you've not actually witnessed fighting, so my first thought would be mites. I dont know about the bald patches but its likely what your seeing is little scabs rather than teeth marks and with them being on the back and neck that does sound typical of mites.

Re: Healthy Rat Weight

It completely depends on the rat, my Cheech is 500g and is really slim and toned, but I've seen boys that are about 600g/700g that are really solid, but not fat. If they're squishy and they puddle then they're podgy  .
