Re: Urgent advice needed.

Poor things, how horrid. She looks pregnant from those photos, or it could be fat from having back to back litters - I picked up two girls who were bred for petshops and had the pot belly but wasn't pregnant. I wonder how many times the female has been pregnant :< least these two were giving...

Re: How can I tell them that....

When you clean them out everyday they will mark more to make the cage smell like them, so will make it smell more, only until they feel confident that their area smells like them, will they stop marking so much, also rats have a kind of scent themselves so you're never going to stop them smelling. B...

Re: Classroom pets?

Having rabbits myself and knowing lots about them I know they wouldn't be the first pet I'd recommend for a class pet. My first choices would be rats, degus and guineapigs. All can be active in the day and are easy and big enough for kids to handle. From what I read, it doesn't seem like a problem a...

Re: Colours... Help confirm please :-)

I don't see Siamese in there either. They tend to have a two tone look to them, like pale brown and champagne, but not obviously brown it's odd to explain but it's very noticeable once you've seen it.

Re: HELP! Anyone have a photo of a half wild rat??

I've had a very slender, very nervy agouti and that with his personality and looks I would've sworn was wild, except he was dumbo. He never bit, but was odd towards me. I couldn't touch him without him freaking, but we did get to an understanding and he got bold enough to run all over me and handled...

Re: Here we are again...

Neuter the one year old, he's trying to take over from the 2 year old alpha and it's unlikely the 2 year old would be hormonal, but the 1 year old still can be (I had to get an 18 month old neutered due to sudden hormones) so you could wait it out and see if it settles and use what Dinky suggests an...

Re: Ruby eyes?

roans tend to have slight ruby eyes due to the marking, so the eyes look black and would be black but would shine red in flash, it's not proper ruby like the gorgeous rat in this thread. All my roans I had, did have a slight ruby tint to their eyes, but it's nothing like the buff who has proper ruby...

Re: Wild pet rats continued...

Having read this, I think the op is going to find herself in more trouble. Since the first litter she raised would only accept her, this new litter will also only accept her, so she would have to keep them all. Plus if I read right, that mum has escaped again so she's bound to be pregnant again and ...

I've had one rat eat it, and managed to get my rabbit to enjoy it, but because she had to have baytril too she wont take anything from a syringe. banana flavoured baby food works

Re: are my hormones effecting him?

Hi, it's possible that because of the old boys died and new rats moved in that the others are all trying to sort out their hierarchy, but the aggressive rat sounds hormonal, bucks tend to rub themselves up things when they're hormonal in a way of claiming things. I don't think you being pregnant has...

Re: rat not right in the head?

I once did a different kind of introduction with four 3-5 month old males, after meeting on the couch and deemed them ok, I let them run around my bedroom, cleaned out the cage thoroughly and left the door open with food and water and then left them overnight running around my room. There was enough...

Re: Sudden agressive behaviour and biting people

Hormonal problems for me start with just freeranging, both rats I had problems with whilst freerange got so bad they had to be separated and neutered. Could be hormones since I had an 18 month old become worse when two of the alpha rats died, but was cured with neutering.

Re: Sudden agressive behaviour and biting people

Something might have spooked him or he did hurt himself but the pain's gone now or he might have been in a fight? that before has caused my sweet rats to act like that, but if he reverts back to it, it could be hormones and might need neutering. How old is he? How long has he been with the others an...
