Re: Substrate- how necessary?

I scatter feed, but not on the base, i use a smaller tray as i didn't want to put food where they do the majority of their weeing. They're in furet plus' at the min, and someone else mentioned that extra space might reduce the problem, so hopefully. I'll have a look around at other substrates then, ...

Substrate- how necessary?

I recently got an srs and my boys & girls are yet to move in so i'm doing a lot of research on good layouts etc. Basically i hate substrate and would really prefer not to have it. I use finacard and they just wee over it & it just clumos at the bottom of the cage. They don't dig in it, or use it for...

Re: Charity Shop Bargain

The speed in the video seems a bit.. mental!
Haha, I think mine would all be terrified of it going like that, but if the other speeds are slower i'd go for it!
Looks like a good bargain.

Savic royal suite

Just ordered one! SO EXCITED! Unfortunately my 2 groups can't move in for a week or two as we have a sick family member and his dog staying and the rats have been banished to the en-suite bathroom. I'd love any ideas for cage layouts and random stuff you've bought to put in your srs, i'm going to ha...

I think if you take such an extreme attitude, there's an awful of of foods you'd not be able to eat.

cod liver oil

Due to a change in family circumstances my ratties are now all temporarily living in my en-suite and being free-ranged in my bedroom. Today they came across a box of cod liver oil capsules that I didn't remember I had. They were going absolutely mental chewing the plastic box to bits to get at them....

Re: Number of rats/ wheels

I only have a wheel for my 4 girls, they've never really fought over it. One uses it almost constantly, one ocassionally when the other isn't on, and the other two aren't interested. My boys had one too, but none of them ever got on it. So I guess it just depends.

Re: intros gone well??

If they're sleeping together then i'd just move them in tomorrow. Just make sure you clean out their cage and rearrange some stuff. Sounds like it's going great!

hurty eye

This morning I noticed my boy Albie's eye has changed colour a bit. He's a pink-eyed and his eyesight's never been the best. His eye is now a lighter pink, kind of cloudy. He doesn't seem bothered by it, and was out dandering about as normal. This picture prob isn't very good, but might give some id...

Re: Changing rat's name?

My first two boys were rescues, about a year old and were called rio and cider. It didn't suit them at all and they didn't respond to their names so i changed them to albie and chandler. The only other to have a name is my lovely 28month doe who i rehomed this week, she's called monk and it suits he...

Yeah, tried towels in the bath.
Seem to be getting on okay still. Given them a little food, no fighhts, though monk's not eating much at the minute anyway. Guess just wait and see.
