Re: Hairless rats eye

Today was vet's day, with an interesting result! Mhaya's coat is nothing to worry about and he thought she was overall looking good so that was a relief :) He first put some dye in Sugar's eye to look under a light at it. There were no scratches and her lower eyelid seems to be healing nicely. Howev...

Re: Coat quality has become poor

Ooh that's a really good idea I will buy some for the 'rat stuff' box!! =)
Yeah I just think they look so mucky at the moment, and they're always getting their tails wee'd on and such. They barely ever clean them! They used to be so pretty and pink too!

Re: Coat quality has become poor

 Ahh at least it's not lice or anything, she is my lazier lady! Is a toothbrush a suitable tool for tail grooming? They all have disgracefully mucky tails since their new newspaper litter, probably due to the ink. They seem to dislike me playing with their tails trying to encourage the dead ski...

Re: Coat quality has become poor

The red bits are on her fur like little lines of red colour on the white... they don't look like lice, I looked at them very closely and they are just red coloured bits in her fur, almost looks like her fur is that colour but I know it's not :-? Yeah I think a muesli diet is nicer, they love to pick...

Re: Coat quality has become poor

Cheers for the links! Decent pet shops are hard to come by in my home town so I shall order today :-) I think I will use ready mixed food as I don't trust myself enough to provide the correct diet by mixing, as fun as it is making it up! I'm taking my hairless to the vet for her eye so I'll bring he...

Re: Hairless rats eye

Thankyou for your replies! I fully understand about the vets, it hasn't seemed bad enough to panic over too much though yet as the drops are keeping it looking well. I have tried endlessly to get a picture, though the difference to her normal eye is so small that my camera can't pick up on it! (And ...

Re: Coat quality has become poor

*She is around 10 months old, I was mistaken as she was slightly older than my other doe when I got her, it's Sugar that's younger.

Hairless rats eye

My hairless doe Sugar had a scrap/rough play recently, about a month or so ago and I took her to the vet due to an eye infection. She actually had a little nick on the lower eyelid and the vet prescribed fucithalmic. After her two week course, it was looking better, and for the next two weeks my rat...

Re: Coat quality has become poor

She does have pale circles round her eyes and ears, I am just confused as on the same diet before I always admired her beautiful coat :S perhaps her mix is varied from before, or the rodent mix has had a really bad effect? Though she was browning before the change of food.

Re: Coat quality has become poor

I have always fed them a mix of rat nuggets, shreddies, dry pasta, sunflower hearts and monkey nuts. Hemp seeds, sweetcorn and peas for treats. About a month ago the got fed some 'Rodent mix' which was like hamster food untill I could get more nuggets to make more mix. It just seems strange that it'...

Coat quality has become poor

I have 4 rats, 2 are still babies. Mhaya, born in January, has had a sudden change of coat. I don't know if this is due to her becoming an adult or if it's a summer coat? She is a black hooded rat, and her black used to be glossy and thick. But now, her rear end is almost all a soft brown (like an u...

Candle wax - though reading this post it's perhaps not as strange as I imagined!
