Re: Advice for first time rat owner regarding feeding

Thanks very much for the advice, will look into rat rations, and think I will definitely get the scuttling gourmet. Like the idea of scattering the food, was thinking of hiding it and putting it all around the cage so they have to look for it, seems a bit boring for them to have it just sitting there!

Re: eyelet puncher tool for hammocks

Just don't do what I did and get a 99p one from a cheapo shop, it couldn't put a hole in butter. My boyfriend's been practising with it on a pair of his pants (don't ask why), and it doesn't work at all!

Advice for first time rat owner regarding feeding

I'm slowly making my way through all the different things I need to sort out before I get my rats, and i've come to food, I will be totally honest i'm absolutely overwhelmed by all the information. I obviously plan on speaking to the breeder about what to feed when I get my babies but I'd like to st...

Re: Homemade Hammocks

I've just started trying to make the hammock from that tutorial but I can't seem to get the template bit right (which is not a great start, I know!). I don't really get what you are meant to do, I just keep getting elaborate snowflake type designs!

Re: Parrot/Bird Toys Safe?

Don't worry I think I overworry about stuff like that as well, I keep analysing everything I buy and safety checking it, especially since It's my first time having rats, so I am being super careful. Saying that though I'm like that with my dogs as well. I'm never sure which woods are ok for them, al...

Re: Parrot/Bird Toys Safe?

I wanted to make my own toys as well, I bought some corks from wilkinsons today and would like to get some wooden beads and bits, Not sure where the best place to get things like that is though.

Re: Homemade Hammocks

I was going to just sew them and then use an eyelet punch to make the holes for the corners to hang them (my tiny brain gets confused once I start looking into the tabs to hang them by. That tutorial is exactly what I was looking for, thanks Bunny82. Gonna have a few goes at hand sewing then with a ...

Re: Parrot/Bird Toys Safe?

That links great, the foraging toys look fantastic, I can see my bank account getting a substantial dent in it again!. I've been spending so much money getting all kinds of bits and bobs for my rats, it soon adds up, plus it doesn't help that whenever i'm buying bits for them I feel guilty about my ...

Homemade Hammocks

Does anybody here make their own hammocks? I'm thinking of doing my own as I'm into crafty stuff anyway and I have a big stash of funky fabric left over from when I used to make dog bandanas. Only thing is I don't have a sewing machine at the moment, Don't know if it's do-able to hand sew them, or w...

Parrot/Bird Toys Safe?

I've noticed a lot of pictures of peoples layouts where they have parrot toys, I would love to get some as they seem a lot more interesting than most of the rat toys. I just wanted to double check what to look out for to make sure they are safe for them, Is there anything I need to avoid? I did read...

Re: Where the rat things live

That is so amazing and inspiring, I haven't got my rats yet so am doing loads of planning and research, and getting all my toys/cage accessories and doing the set up at the moment. My plan at the moment was to have them in the dining room next to the living room as it's open plan, but we have a spar...

Re: a little bit of advice please

We have a lot of equestrian stores round here so I will probably try and find one of those substrates there or see if they have something similar. Is anybody on here in the buckinghamshire area who knows of somewhere that stocks them, instead of me buying them online?

Re: a little bit of advice please

Thanks for all the advice so far, gives me some ideas. Not sure where i'm getting my rats from yet, I'm in Milton Keynes and am looking for a breeder round here, found a couple of breeders but it all seems rather complicated, with waiting lists and forms to fill in. I used to breed and show hamsters...
