Re: URGENT Rats eaten ..... (distressing)
Well, I think that if there's no blood, or any other evidence of being eaten, then the wee thing probably escaped . . .with it's three remaining legs going like the clappers!! I don't know much about rat's digestive system when it comes to bone or fur, but I would have though that they would be hard...

Re: URGENT Rats eaten ..... (distressing)
Is it possible that they DIDN'T eat the mouse. . .? Once a mouse got caught in a trap that my grandpa left out. The little mouse had got it's leg trapped in the mousetrap and when my grandpa tried to let the mouse go, it was struggling so hard that it's leg fell off. Gruesome story, I know. . .but t...

Re: ZGT questions?
The first time I realised that Wee Man had a lump was when I took a photograph of him - the lump showed up very clear in the photograph yet it was barely visable just to look at him. Very strange. . .but it might be worth taking a few snaps and seeing if it's the same for you?

Re: New rat. . .health problems. . advice needed please!
Thanks guys :) Unfortunately Peach isn't looking great - she literally turned Blue while I was giving her ABs and was gasping for air. Never had a rat that bad before. The worst I've ever experienced was a healthy male with a rattly chest which cleared up after a few days of ABs. This doesn't look g...

Re: ZGT questions?
I had two boys (brothers) last year called Big Man and Wee Man. Wee man developed a pea sized lump just under his ear canal. I had never had any experience with ZGTs before then, so I didn't know what it was. I took him to the vet when it started to increase in size - this didn't take too long. Afte...

New rat. . .health problems. . advice needed please!
Hi, Hoping I can get some advice from someone with more experience than me. . . Just acquired three female rats. . .in very poor condition. . .two needed to be put to sleep today and the other one (Peach) has been put on Baytril for a respiratory infection. I wanted to introduce her to my existing f...

Re: Fleece bedding/lining for explorer
Thanks for the advice guys :) I only have thin fleece just now, but I will try and get some vet bed for whichever half they like sleeping in better and use substrate on the other half :) I got the three other girlies last night, and two were so bad they had to be put down today. I have one girl left...

Re: What does this look like to you... abcess??
It may be a tooth abcess? I had two males (brothers) who had ZGTs - it was really awful . I had no experience of ZGTs before, so I didn't know what to expect. When the lump abcessed, I thought that's exactly what it was. But it was the ZGT causing an infection :( It looked a lot like that. Fingers c...

Fleece bedding/lining for explorer
Hi guys, I'm hoping you could give me some advice. I'm getting another explorer for my little girlies. . .and since they are far less likely to dribble wee everywhere, like my boys. . .I wanted to use fleece bedding/lining. I had a look at peoples set-up in the "show your set-up" section and I love ...

Re: OK Cage/sitting room de-ponging plan
Looking good! I just bought Tap-a-Drop from the Rat Warehouse website - the soft linen one smells good and it's working a treat in my rat room. I sit my air purifier on top of (well, I use the purifier as a weight with part of the tissue sticking out at the front) a bit of tissue with a few drops an...

Re: Pastic rings any good
Aw! The nearest one to us is about 40mins away, so I think we're quite lucky. Although, Ikea is quite mind-numbing so we don't go that often :p I just did a quick search, and you can get them on ebay or Amazon (although the ebay ones look better) if you type in "curtain clips" in the search bar. The...

Re: Shopping trip to B&Q! (Home made toys)
Maybe you could get some tumble dryer tubing/duct - it's quite cheap and it's big enough for even the fattest of rats! I just saw this on their website - it looks like it comes with some sort of box/rat hide-away too :) http://www.diy-spares.com/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=759605 I bought the same tubing...

Re: Levels for an Explorer? Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions :) Someone is kindly posting me a pair of shelves that they don't use (thanks anyway Lilyland!). I'm hoping that the shelves will be bigger than the Ferplast ones so that I can have some extra room for a litter tray so that my lazy males won't have to go down a l...

Re: Pastic rings any good
Hey, I was just in Ikea and I bought "DIGNITET" curtain hooks for my hammocks: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20075947 They are great for attaching hammocks to the wire bars of rat cages. There are 24 clips in a pack so you can go hammock- mad! I'm not sure if they would be useful for ha...
