Re: When are rat babies considered adult sized??

They're considered adults at 6 months, but continue to bulk out a bit for the whole of the first year. :)

Re: Changing rat's name?

We tend to rename rescues. The exception was our first four rescue boys who all came with names I really liked and which suited them, apart from one and we changed that to something very similar. I wouldn't change them just for the sake of it, but I like naming things and feel, like others, that it ...

Re: My new baby rat got out of cage and.....

I had a heartwarming moment like that when we were socialising our first pair of rats. We had them out every evening for ages in the hall, letting them run over us, holding them briefly (they were babies and wanted to be off exploring) and I wasn't sure how well we were doing. Then one evening a noi...

They are marking their territory and their belongings so take it as a compliment. You belong to them and they're telling the world about that. :D

Re: An overview of the new forum

My rats and I thoroughly enjoyed Gumby's forum and Gabby's right: it was enormous fun, though not everyone's cup of tea. I'd love to be part of something like it again but I suspect the place for it is not on FR.

Re: Adverts appearing as replies on FR

Turns out that Al-Mustansiriya is a university in Baghdad! I for one would like to welcome my fellow student, petier and rat-lover to the board with open arms - ignore the remarks of these crass heathens; they haven't greuned for 28hrs a day and so wouldn't understand the prestige!

And another one is our newest member  I wish we could report users for this reason, but we have to wait until they post. At least, I assume this is another: http://fancy-rats.co.uk/community/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=24676 (excuse the long link, no idea hhow to shorten). They really a...

Someone more knowledgeable will probably be along soon but most of my rats have had episodes of these "hiccups" and in my experience it's quite normal. :)

Re: Very vocal rat...what does it mean?!?

Beri is absolutely right. I have Rosie, who lets out the most awful squeals. I used to think it was because she was being hurt, but, on closer inspection, it is (a) because someone else is being hurt, (b) because someone else is being pinned, (c) because it looks as if someone else might be going t...

Re: Why do they bully?

I think I've said on here before that their way of scrapping to sort things out can sound like the outbreak of World War Three to us. It looks like bullying to us but it's their way of sorting out the pecking order. Rats expect there to be a pecking order in their group and are much happier o...

Re: Youngsters fighting. For dominance or play?

The normal rule is, no blood no foul - it's usual for a group of rats to scrap to establish the pecking order in the cage. Scrapping to them can sound like World War Three to us. It sounds like your quiet boy is just that - a quiet boy. Some rats are. If he seems well, is eating fine, not bein...
