Wheezy breathing when asleep

I have noticed that when Giles is asleep his breathing is a bit noisy. He is fine when he is awake - no sound whatsoever. Do you think it is worth giving him a course of Baytril to try to clear it up - or am I overreacting and will this potentially make him resistant to Baytril so that if he gets a ...

Re: Continued buying of products from shops selling pets

I don't buy products from pet shops that sell animals. I hate the commercial breeding of pets and would dearly love to see them all go out of business. So...I don't even go in them. I buy all my rats' supplies either online or from shops/garden centres that don't sell animals. I don't think it is di...

Re: How many of your rats have not had to go to the vets?

Giles has only been for neutering - so not illness as such - and he is nearly 2 years old.
Oliver (10 months old) hasn't been yet but I have treated him at home with Baytril for respiratory problems so I guess that doesn't count.

Re: Senior aid

I *think* anything over 18 months is 'older'. I think I started my boys on it around 20 months.

Constant porphyrin around eye

One of my boys Henri seems to have an almost constantly porphyrin-y eye. It is just the left eye - sometimes it looks really bad - almost like he has cut it - other times it is less so - but it is almost always there. I have been bathing it twice daily with chamomile for about 3 weeks, but although ...

Re: Yet Another Expression of Old Age?

It sounds like it could be neurological, but I am not any kind of authority on the subject. Senior Aid certainly won't do her any harm - I have my two older boys aged nearly 22 months on it as a supplement even though they are in great health - they each get 0.25ml twice weekly - just to give them a...

Re: Poor Old Rat

Awww...well done to you for giving an old boy a second chance. The 'shuffling' you mentioned sounds like he might have the start of HLD - I would get him started on Senior Aid asap and put him on the kidney friendly diet too. Scritches to him...has he got a name?

Re: Sex Change

True, but I've found neutered boys often get on quite well with other boys once they've been given the chance to calm down. Agreed. My rat Giles was a nightmare with other rats when I first got him, but after neutering he was a dream at intros and was successfully been introduced to a 2 years+ boy ...
