Given the doseage I was using, I think it would be worth trying to see if it makes a difference to your girlie. You will still have the vet appointment in hand. Good luck. :luck:

Re: vetmedin dose?

When I was prescribed Vetmedin, I was advised to give a quarter twice daily, but the ratties who had that were pretty poorly and had previously been on Fortekor which is not as strong. I know Fortekor takes about 4 days to kick in and assume Vetmedin is the same but am not sure. Fingers crossed for ...

Re: Spaying a female to cure aggression?

Thanks for your replies peeps. I think I'll give the less drastic measures a go first before plunging Eclipse into surgery although judging from you have said, it looks as if this may be necessary in the end. :( To be fair, Eclipse is ok with her cage mates about 75% of the time but it is always her...

Spaying a female to cure aggression?

Has anybody had a doe spayed with a view to curing her aggression and has it worked? I have a 9 month old girl who regularly picks fights with her cage mates and attacks me regularly despite a considerable amount of handling. She doesn't exactly bite me leaving puncture holes - it is more a question...

Re: My boy Robbie died today after surgery :(

Very sorry to hear this sad news. You were only trying to do the right thing for Robbie but sadly you are not the first to experience this scenario. I wish the end result could have been otherwise for you and everyone else who has been through the same thing. Sleep well Robbie. Play hard and h...

Re: massive Abscess being lanced this afternoon- which anti-bis

One of my lads had a massive abscess (described by my vet as very similar to abscesses which rabbits get in terms of consistency). :sickrat: This was lanced, debrided and flushed out under anaesthetic, then packed with 2 opened capsules of Antirobe sprinkled inside the wound and Dermisol cream appli...

Re: fortekor

So sorry to hear that Kate. RIP little girl.

I know some people who have ratties with heart issues, go straight for Vetmedin which is much stronger but I'm not sure if that is as good for kidney problems. I hope your other little girl will be ok. :luck:

Re: fortekor

I've had several ratties on Fortekor and have always been prescribed a quarter of a 2.5mg tablet twice a day to start with and have had to increase this on occasions or go on to stronger meds.

Re: SDAV raises its ugly head again :(

Although I don't know you at all, I really can feel for you at the present time and am sorry you are having to go through this now and also sorry for anyone else who has had to deal with this horrible virus in the past. :( It's something which fills me with abject horror whenever I take on any new r...

Re: metacam dose

The dose will also differ depending on whether you have been given Metacam for cats or for dogs, the latter being far stronger. I usually have the Metacam for dogs and just give 1 drop a day.

Re: they gave her ketamine!

I'm so very sorry to hear she didn't make it. What happened to your little girl sounds almost identical to what happened to my boy Cirrus but in his case, I was told that the injectable anaesthetic had to be used as he was having an eye removed and they could not use the gas for that operation...

Re: they gave her ketamine!

I do hope she picks up properly very soon. :luck: My vets only use ketamine when surgery is being performed on an area where it makes using gas impossible, ie around the face. That sort of surgery is usually pretty complicated and high risk as well. Sadly on two occasions when I have had that sort o...

Re: Head Tilt - PT or ear infection?

One of my boys developed a head tilt before and was also circling badly and very disorientated. I took him to the vet who said he might very well have an ear infection or something wrong neurological. I wasn't prepared to give up on him at that stage and asked for him to be treated for an ear infect...

Re: Dosages for heart problems

I currently have a lad who has just been diagnosed with a heart murmur. He is quite a big lad, prob somewhere around 500-600g. He receives a quarter of a tablet of Fortekor 2.5mg twice a day plus Frusemide of 0.03ml twice a day. He's been on that for just over a week now and has responded well. Good...
