Re: Need help picking out new cage (old one was bitten through)

Well I've actually found a thread on the (( Rat Manor )) which actually makes it sound not bad as 'starter' cage. Though it sounds as though it has a few negative points. However as you'll notice in that picture they have covered up the shelves so you'd have to be prepared to do that. Or make your o...

Re: Need help picking out new cage (old one was bitten through)

Hmmmmm..... can't say I particularly like either of those cages tbh. I've kept rats for a long time now (with a couple of 'rat breaks') and I've had far too many cages lol. My first piece of advice is to view getting your decent rat cage as a long-term investment. From experience I can tell you that...

Re: Need help picking out new cage (old one was bitten through)

Here's the (( Link for the Goosemoose rat forum )) for you. :D

Hopefully you'll find something suitable for your ratty - there should be lots of information on there for you. Welcome to the world of rats! Your life will never be the same again lol.

Re: Feeding veg...

Thanks Jemma - it would certainly be helpful if I could do the same and freeze stuff. I could use the things we always have as a fresh 'base' and freeze the more unusual stuff in various combinations. :D

Re: Feeding veg...

Thanks hlcasey! Lol I remember giving past rats grapes - I had to gnaw a bit off so that they knew what they were! As these girls are so young I want to get them used to a variety now. They enjoy everything I've offered them so far and pinch any of the hamster / mouse / guinea pig food that ma...

Re: Feeding veg...

Awww thanks! :D Was hoping you'd reply Neotoma lol. That's all really helpful. Unfortunately my beloved is not keen on veg (I have to hide it in things to get him to eat it!) so we don't usually have a good range other than what the piggles and rabbits have. Today I did some Butternut Squash ...

Feeding veg...

....ok this may seem a real 'numpty' question but what fresh veg do people regularly feed to their rats? Having guinea pigs and rabbits we almost always have in - Romaine lettuce, carrot, green pepper, broccoli, spring greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and occasionally curly kale and coriander, appl...

Re: Flat Packable cages

I think the doors are tiny. :-? I've seen the 'single' version of this in a shop and they were teeny tiny sized doors. The cages didn't look - well - all that sturdy tbh. The way the Samo flat packs it's all sort of one piece on the top half (with the roof) but it looks as if the roof on the Imac cl...

Re: Which aviary as a rat cage??

Well I feel it's best to be honest. And I honestly can't wait to get an SRS! It's more helpful to be honest really. Even my husband feels the rats should have a wider cage long-term. Not that my babies deserve a shiny SRS since they decided to redesign my net curtains last night......! Norrrtt...

Re: Which aviary as a rat cage??

You may well need to sell your Explorer so ignore me if you want to lol. But I have a Tall Chinchilla at the moment and I really don't like it. It's narrow. It's too narrow! It's not anywhere near as flexible as I'd like layout-wise and it irritates me. It will do for now and as there's only 3 of th...

Re: The importance of staggering ages

Aw sorry you've gone through all that. :( I made exactly the same mistake when I last had rats. Had the same problem you describe too - the grief of some of mine certainly caused some of mine to have a premature death which was awful. I too try to warn people of the danger of having lots of rats at ...

Re: Identifying 'twins' - food colouring?

I use sharpie marker pens! I marked a group of 12 identical black topears with sharpies, and they are all still marked now, 3 months later. I can confirm that this is indeed true having 3 of the above ratties lol. I know them from their personalities now and they are all slightly diffe...

Re: How can I tell them that....

I've just ordered one of (( These Air Purifiers )) as someone on a thread on here recommended them. :D Might help with the situation! Mine hasn't come yet so I can't say how effective it is lol but it has good reviews. Also; you *could* empty the litter tray every day and wipe down shelves / change ...

I'm currently enquiring after a second brio mini. BAD LILLY. BAD LILLY YES. Where's it even going to go? On your roof? Living room! I have been toying with the idea of having a 'downstairs' group for a while... Seeing as my dad has just let me move a random human in, i can't see him arguing w...

It could well be hormonal - and please don't blame yourself. :hearts: He could be being upset by being bullied making him nervous with you. The bottom ranking girly of my group - Lila - (also the runt in a litter of 16) is a squeaky girl. She's ok and loves being around us but just squeaky and when ...
