Looks like what I've been told is rusting. One of my ratties had the same symptoms, I treated the whole cage for mites and it didn't go away. Then after a suggestion from someone else, I cut her nails (just removing the sharp tip with nail-clippers). The nails weren't particularly sharp and I didn't see her scratching more, but two days late...

Cloudy baytil isn't effective so I've been told. And I've also been told that contamination of the baytril makes it go cloudy quickly - so washed syringes with teeny bits of water or bits of food/med hiding stuff on the end of a syringe being reused is to be avoided. Horrible unstable 'Critter3'. I used the MDF board to add stability before I was told how to use the long and short wire-rods to hold it all together better! :
