Re: Nasty abscsess

She seem bright in herself, but she's only a little being .. Argh decisions! Am also concerned (in general) as I work away Monday morning to Tuesday evenings these days an OH is not so deft with the Baytril administration. I don't even feel I can lance this abscsess as I normally would, because the ...

Re: hospital tank/cage

I usually keep them in a Critter 1 after ops - I line with polystyrene & give only clean paper bedding, changed daily. Keep them like that for about 24 hours, then if all looks well they go back into the Tower with the rest of the gang.

Nasty abscsess

Poor Berry had a lump removed one week ago. Everything looked like it was healing nicely and overnight the area behind the wound has gone hard and now there is cheesy green pus visible between the stiches *yuk*. Have been given Baytril & Ronaxan, as usual, but am wondering if I should drop her o...

Re: Two ancient rats ...

I would never risk it, whatever their age. What about tardak for him? I don't know if it only treats aggression or if it makes them infertile too. m Thanks for the tip - have several options to discuss with vet. It would just be nice for the two oldies to have each other so that my cages can return...

Re: Two ancient rats ...

Not sure what proper buck fur feels like? He's a rex without much fur left - he's a bit patchy but very silky soft. I've only had him a few weeks as he was a rescue. The plan was for him to be friends with our neutereds, but Athos is terrified of them because he can't see anything and they're very b...

Re: Two ancient rats ...

Thanks for your comments. It's a silly situation, because at heart I'm 99% sure they would be great together ... but that last niggling 1% is so dreadful that I'm hesitating. Millie's groin tumours would probably prevent intercourse & she's a feisty little cowbag. *lol* Athos's testicles are lik...

Two ancient rats ...

Is there any chance a 3 yo tumour riddled girl & a 3.5 yo saggy testicled, HLD boy could live together? I'm having serious trouble in my cages. The rescue boy, Athos is scared of anything that moves ... except for our old girl Millie, whom he adores (through the bars & in hand). Our old girl...

Re: Strange symptoms - can you help?

Went to the vets and they weren't much help as they said that they couldn find anything wrong - just said bring her back if she gets worse. I have spoken to friends who have rats and toniht I gave a dose of baytril (0.2ml). It seems worth a try - I will have to see how she goes on now? Em x Baytril...

Re: Millie neck gash! +pics+

Thanks I've been reading other threads saying similar things to you ... I think at this point it would be more stressful for her to be taken to emergency vet than to be left alone with good food and a warm igloo. It looks bad, but it doesn't *feel* bad if you know what I mean?

Millie neck gash! +pics+

Poor old Millie seems to have hurt her neck -- couldn't find any object in cage, so think it must have been another rat. The hierarchy has been a bit mad lately . It looks nasty but I think it's only the epidermis as there's no blood (and no blood in the cage! How is this possible?) -- have filled t...

Re: My little Circa died....shocking abrupt death!

So sorry to see this :(
Rats often seem to hide their illnesses and can seem more perky even though they're feeling worse inside :(.
You did your best ((HUGS)).

Re: Think I'm about to lose my first Rat :(

They do hit the critical age very suddenly . It's possible she might have had a small stroke as well, which could be influencing her balance. Personally I would get her to the vet and ask for their opinion - it's quite likely that a course of steroids might give your rat a new lease of life. They te...

Re: Best way of PTS?

My vet brings us into the op theatre, gives rattie a whiff of gas and then we hold her during the injection. Soot being Soot woke up immediately and we decided that I would hold her while my OH held the little gas mask - that way she was in my arms but still breathing in the gas. didn't want to take...
