Re: An overview of the new forum

I haven't read through most of this thread but was just thinking, for the members who aren't as active and wouldn't read bits of the forum like this, would it maybe be a good idea to replace the Ratwarehouse ad with some kind of banner saying that the site had moved and giving the new address? If so...

Re: Update- I really need help

I have just come home from work to find that Percy's lump looks a lot bigger. I don't understand how just over one night/ day it could grow so much  Its not going to get any small or is he going to get any bigger. I have decided next Tuesday i'm going to let him sleep  So sorry for what y...

Re: Baytril Dosage

Can't offer any helpful advice, but I can sympathise with your situation. My little lad Tebay had a chest infection a while back and the vet was very insistent on going with what the book said. She listened to my concerns, but told me to try the lower dose first. Unforunately, her scales were also i...

Re: Post-neutering worry - did they miss part of one?!

So... the day after I decide to finally post my silly concerns on FRs, the swollen side finally starts to change colour and look more like an abscess! No wonder the poor lad's been a bit grumpy - it's gonna be one hell of a hole when it goes :sickrat:

Re: what would an abscess look like post neuter?

That sounds exactly like what my Marmalade has at the moment! He was done three weeks ago and his abscess is only now looking like it might be going to burst. I normally just bathe abscesses with saline water or hibiscrub, and ease off any scabs to keep the wound open, but if you do want to us ABs a...

Re: Mites !!!! Treat all???

If they are visible, they'll be lice rather than mites, but the treatment is the same and all will ideally need to be treated. I'm not sure about the Spot-on stuff as have only ever had mine treated at the vets.

Sorry about your loss :(

Could the self possibly be a really pale silver fawn? It's hard to tell from the piccie but he looks more 'gingery' than his friend.

Re: pimples on my Bald Rat

Could you post a photo? They sound like they might be cysts, which should eventually (could take months) come to a head on their own and disappear. Are they kind of lentil sized?

Re: Help-Tom seems to have a whole by his bum

That sounds a lot like an abscess that has just burst. You may want to continue with antibiotics from the vet, and bathing it with hibiscrub or cooled saline water will also help. The aim is to remove most of the yellow yuck from the hole, but to ease off any scabs that form on top, because with abs...

Re: Lump at throat

Glad it turned out to be just an abscess :) It may be worth keeping an eye on his lower teeth for a while, as when one of my boys had a big neck abscess it (I think) spread to one of his teeth, which went dark brown towards the bottom, then another abscess came up below his ear months later. I'm not...

Re: Post-neutering worry - did they miss part of one?!

When Widget had his abscess there my OH joked that poor Widget must have woken up one day and gone 'YAY!!! THEY'VE GROWN BACK!!!!'   Lol, with only one Marmalade must be utterly confused! How long did it take for his abscess to come to a head and pop? It's been three weeks no...

Thanks for the reply; I'm sure you're right. Assuming it is an abscess, I hope for his sake that it pops soon - it can't be comfortable for the poor boy :(

Post-neutering worry - did they miss part of one?!

I had my boy Marmalade neutered three weeks ago, and on the surface all seemed to have gone well. He looked a bit in pain for a day or two afterwards, then eased back into things and seemed to grow calmer towards his new cagemates, which is why he was being done. One side always looked more swollen ...

Re: Prednisolone drops - dosage

Is it only the steroid that she's been prescribed? For any kind of respy noises I would probably have her on antibiotics as well, at a reasonably strong dose if she's looking fluffed up and unhappy as well as making noises :) Did the vet say what he was treating for with the steroids?
