Re: Cariad rattery

LOL!!

I most definitely am breeding...but just a human baby at the moment :)

I hope to get back into the rats next year, depends how I manage with my own new arrival really. Good luck in finding some rats, I can also recommend Clare if you're after rescues, she's lovely :)

Re: To all the breeders, what made you start!?

My first litter was supposed to be a one off, one of my Burmese dumbo pet girls, Zephyr Bethan, got spotted at a show by another breeder, and I was told it would be a crying shame not to have a litter from her as she was so lovely. Bethans litter went very wrong and I only had one baby survive, Harr...

Re: Right I think he's recessive Rex - opinions?

I still reckon that from the history of that line he's more likely to be double rex (well, dominant x recessive rex).

Bless his little wavy whiskers!!

Re: Right I think he's recessive Rex - opinions?

I reckon that mum carried the recessive rex gene, hence his almost baldy look and wavy whiskers.

Re: Right I think he's recessive Rex - opinions?

I think I'd definitely go with recessive rex too...he's even got wavy whiskers!!

Am wondering if one of your burm girls (the paler one) is a mink burmese?

Re: what to feed!!

I use EMP (egg food for budgies) mixed with lactol, scrambled eggs, good quality dog or cat food such as naturediet, tinned oily fish like sardines/pilchards, pretty much anything that's a good quality protein to supplement the normal diet :) Extra greens like Curly Kale are great too.

Hpe that helps :D

Re: 2 litters, 27 babies, 1 uninterested mum. *quite important*

That doesn't sound too hopeful. I think you probably ought to start asking around and see if anyone local to you has got a doe with a litter of a similar age to yours. 27 babies is going to be a bit much for bluebell to cope with on her own I've got a doe with 11, but the babies are a week old alre...

Re: Rats from south wales??

I've just had a litter born here as well, after trying for months on end!! As it stands, I've probably got some baby girls who will need homes at the end of next month, as most of my waiting list have got fed up of waiting and gone elsewhere!! They're from my friendly, cuddly, healthy burmesey line

Re: Breeders and holidays?

If I'm only off for a week or under, I've got a good friend who comes over and feeds them for me, as well as my chickens. If I'm off for longer than that, which means they'd obviously need cleaning out as well as feeding and cuddles, I sort out ratsitters, which for me means a day of driving all ove...

Re: Leaving the mother with girl babies.

This is not a hard and fast rule for me and I judge each litter by its own merits, what I find most difficult is when I have a single buck in a litter and have to wean him and have no other lads a similar age to put him with, even if only for a week or so, I have been known to still take him out an...

Re: breeders in south wales?

I must apologise now for my out of date website I've been having a break from breeding for a while to concentrate on looking after my boyfriend as he lost his mum last year so we've been having a bit of a stressful time. Promise I'll sort it out soon, and definitely will in time for my summer litters
