Re: Sad Rats

I think they really do know that something is not right. My girl CoCo died last week, she shared her cage with 4 other girls and the next day i completely cleaned the cage out. I gave them a big bowl of food and normally they dive straight into it but they didnt bother with their food at all and whe...

Re: my rats still dont trust me

Just give it time - your ratties will learn to love you soon! :smileyrat: Just go along with what everyone else has suggested. Being near them as often as possible and having loads of treats with you helps. Yogurt on a spoon worked for me as most rats love yogurt, just make sure its NOT chocolate or...

Re: Do your rats go mad for tea?

Try some herbal tea's, just allow them to cool and pop them in a bowl or bottle, some go down really well. I give mine green tea occasionally, or mint tea, I've tried nettle tea but neither me or the rats liked that one. thats a good idea! I like some of the herbal teas. Funnily enough it only seem...

Do your rats go mad for tea?

We had the girls out for some play time on the couch, i had a cup of tea that i had nearly finished, the girls were going mad trying to get into the mug! I let them have a little taste. They go nuts for it!! I didnt want to let them have to much in case it upset their tummies but they seem to really...

Re: rats nails

You can buy small animal nail clippers in most pets shops. I use these to cut my rats, guinea pigs and even my bearded dragons nail! One rat i had even used trim his own toenails by biting them, none of my current ratties do this

I tried to litter train mine too, they boys just destroyed their litter tray and the girls used it as a bed  so i gave up on that one! Only one of my rats use their tray, my old boy Mugwort uses his litter tray. I didnt have to train him a all, i just put it in cage and he started using it.

Re: Thumping Tail?

My boy Mugwort like to get gently scratched up & down his back. I noticed he closes his eyes while moving his tail and thumping it. He seems to enjoy geeting his back scratched and isnt anyway aggressive. :)

Re: Tumour removal and cagemates

When my Tina had her lump removed i kept her in the hospital cage for a day or two and then put her back in with the others, they all came over to her and investigated her wound. They did recognize and after a while things were back to normal. They were all cuddled up together in a big ratty pile. I...
