dark skin patches on elderly rat

I have a 33 month old rat who is fairly bald now so it is easy to see his skin. He has developed black patches of skin all over his body. Are these just age spots or something more sinister? He is a black rat but his skin was always pink!

Re: Best cage for 5 lazy/ elderly boys?

yes the annoying thing is that I used to have a rabbit 140 but I sold it as I didn't think I would need a rabbit cage that big again! :rollred:

Re: Hacienda rat cage

I guess it depends how well the group get on and how lively they are! I had 9 lads in my XL at the most which is smaller than an explorer and they were all fine in there! But they were an older established group and half were neutered.

Re: Hacienda rat cage

I think it's the same as the Abode and the description is wrong. Maybe email the seller for confirmation? What about the Explorer (back to your other thread) if it's for old and lazy boys. There's loadsa space and loads of floor area which is good for oldies and if you hide food and out lots of stu...

Re: Hacienda rat cage

yes I read those but then I ffound the online shops contradicting each other too so was confused! If I didn't have a cat I would get it anyway just too see but I would be too worried about stray paws with 22mm spacing!

Hacienda rat cage

Has anyone on here got one? It looks like the Abode and in some listings it has the 22mm bar spacing of the abode but in others such as the link below it says it has 13mm bar spacing. I'm just wondering which it is as I am looking for a cage with narrow bars!!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00...

Re: Best cage for 5 lazy/ elderly boys?

4 are very big boys and Stig is very skinny! I'm not sure how long Stig will have left though, he's very lively at the moment and is always starfishing on the bars to come out and play but he just really isn't interested in eating, even yoggies and treats he turns his nose up at :(

Best cage for 5 lazy/ elderly boys?

Just wondering what people's thought are on the best cage for 5 boys 3 of which are elderly and 2 that are just plain lazy!!! At the moment they are in a Furet XL but I can't decide whether to stick with it although they don't really utilise the space or try something different as it is so big! :-?

Re: Milo needs to lose some weight... any tips?

I have this problem I used little peices of digestive to distract the others so that my poorly ones could have their meds! Now I have 2 skinny ones (who are on and off meds all the time for respiratory problems) and 4 fat blobs :o Incidentally the fat ones rarely leave the cage at free ranging time ...

Re: Zithromax for a bad rattle

I have had the same with 2 of mine, it worked really well on Res and cleared his rattle within 14 days, on Hiro his breathing has improved on the Zithromax but he is still a bit noisy!

Re: 2 rats with lumps off to vets later

thanks :D I'm still waiting to get Res back, he had his op yesterday which apparently went quite well but now his breathing is bad again so they are keeping him in  He's has been on Zithromax as baytril wasn't working and yesterday they didn't give him any so not sure whether that has anything ...

Re: 2 rats with lumps off to vets later

well there's nothing that can be done for Hiro as he has a big mass in his tummy too  Res is booked in to have his lump removed on Friday, the vet is unsure whether it can all be removed though as it goes right up under his arm and into his chest but at least the bulk of it can be. The vet also...

2 rats with lumps off to vets later

I have Hiro with a lump on his cheek that feels like an abcess. As directed by the vet (who wasn't that confident about treating rats) he has been on antibiotics for 13 days now and it hasnn't made any difference so we are back to the vets later. Should I insist on having it cleaned out or should I ...

Re: lump on male rats chest

I'll take him for a check up. I don't think he would be a very good candidate for surgery though with his respiratory problems, unfortunately he has been on antibiotics for chest problems for a couple of months, everytime I stop them it comes back again

lump on male rats chest

I have just spotted a large lump on Res's chest it feels quite hard, is it most likely to be an abcess or do male rats get tumors too? He has been on (and still is on) antibiotics for respiratory problems (baytril and doxy), I'd have thought they would have prevented an abcess from appearing :-? He ...
