Re: Respiratory infection-youngster not responding to treatment

Tylan = tylosin, is related to erythromycin, and also has anti-inflammatory effects.

Is it possible to mix it with some honey, blackcurrant or similar and syringe it in, so she is at least getting something?

Re: At my wits end!

When I'd had my operations and couldn't get down to the bath, I bought one of thise storage boxes amd made a mesh lid, so I could supervise them.

Re: Case for the emergency vets?

If the only out of hours ones are as useless as that you're probably best giving her Baytril and Metacam and seeing your usual vet tomorrow - and making sure she keeps cool.

Re: Sparkey ate some of my steroid cream!

If she only had a little, it should do no harm - it's related to the steroids used on rats - reminds me, Batgirl needs her steroids, which she is tailing off.

Re: ZGT questions?

I think a vet visit is called for, but it could well be an abscess caused by a dental problem. Facial abscesses often respond best to Synulox, with or without Antirobe. The latter tastes vile but if the abscess is lanced it may be possible to syringe it in locally. Bella did well for over 2 months w...

One brilliant topical AB is Antirobe (lincomycin). It is so vile that it's dreadful to give by mouth!

Re: Fluid on the lungs?

I would certainly recommend frusemide/furosemide from the vet. This is good for fluid on the lungs, whether caused by lung or heart problems. It may also be worth asking for Fortekor - an ACE inhibitor, in case it is heart-related, as the two often go together. You'll probabably find something on do...

Re: Respy Rat

The CavyRescue site has an excellent downloadable leaflet for vets - they would probably appreciate it. Helen and I have trained Bradley up well in things rat-related, and he's also great at internet searching. He's now a partner, so should be there for a long time. I'm also starting to train Becky ...

Re: Nail Clipping: Tips & Advice Needed!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZiA0Fm9Dpw&feature=player_embedded This should help. Sometimes it helps to wrap the rat, and also to do one foot at a time to start with - with a treat between! It's a good idea to have some Trimmex (or cornflour) nearby in case you do nick the quick. The only time th...
