Re: OK Cage/sitting room de-ponging plan

I read your post this morning and just checked back to see all the magic solutions. The thing that works best for me on cage bars is probably biological washing powder - but I suspect on cages that are a few years old the eau de rat has seeped under the bar coating so there's no going back. I ...

Re: fat rat club?

You could scatter feed them so he has to work for his food. The group tend to even out weightwise as the thinner faster ones find more goodies!

Re: Urgent - behaviour / fighting

Take the carrier out! And don't have anything else that anyone can "hole up" in.
Bath intros don't work for me - I just seem to end up with frightened rats, so I'd rather cordon off an area about 2' x 2'.
Where are you? Maybe someone lives near you who could help?

Re: Urgent - behaviour / fighting

I think I'd try and keep them as a group - otherwise they might just kick off again when you put them with the others, and you'll have had all that stress for nothing!
Good Luck. :luck:

Re: Urgent - behaviour / fighting

As the group has lost a rat and gained 2 new ones their whole social structure needs to readjust.
If you have a cage smaller than 1/2 the SRS I'd put them in that with no cage furniture at all for a few days.

Re: Very sick ratty - resp inf - is there anything else I can do

Just to check are you giving an hour gap at least before the baytril and doxy? Why's that? We've been giving baytril and doxy mixed together for years :o Doxycycline is bacteriostatic which means it stops any bugs sensitive to it from doing very much. The theory is that Baytil cannot then kill them...
