Re: Rats & Cats?

I have cats and rat cages in rooms that the cats go in, but when the rats are out the cats are firmly shut the other side of the door. I know there's a number of Youtube videos showing them together, and rats will often show no fear of cats and blatantly pursue them, but it only takes one trial swip...

Re: Litter Tray

Another vote for litter trays here. I use one in the cages of all the rescues who come here (except babies) and find that they mostly use them after a week or so. I don't even "find" where they usually go - the tray is always positioned in the back left corner. Of course, most of my litter trays mus...

Re: Elderly rat being bullied?

This isn't a straightforward one as Remy has possibly started to behave unpredictably along with fitting. I'd keep a very close eye indeed on what might be going on, but I'm afraid I'd have quite a low threshold for sperating them. :(

Disclaimer.... .... My reply was in regards to the forum as it is now. If other aspects are majorly changing then of course I am unable to fully carry across any current opinions. To do so would be illogical, especially when at the time of forming the opinion I have no idea on the proposed cha...

Re: a suggestion (would appreciate input from forum)

Another dissenter here. I'm very happy with how rescues fit into the forum at present and am very concerned about the possibility of creating 2 camps. The "Breeding" section can be posted in by anyone with breeder or rescue mums and litters, so it isn't correct to say that breeders have their own se...

I don't see why they shouldn't have radish. :???: I wouldn't think twice about giving it to mine.

Re: Need advice on getting my rat a friend!!

There are a lot of older rats in rescues needing a home and many rat rescues will do introductions for you if you take Squeak along.
I often keep rats here for a few days until they're happily living together.

Try your local chemist for a styptic pencil. They're becoming increasingly hard to find though.

Oh yes, indeed they can. But I don't think anyone asks for agoutis.

If he's still getting to his food bowl and isn't losing weight I wouldn't be inclined to make things easier for him yet.

Re: dragging back legs?

It sounds like Leo has hind leg degeneration (HLD) which is very common in elderly male rats, and for which there is sadly no treatment. The best thing you can do is to encourage him to keep mobile for as long as possible. As things get worse over time you can add ramps etc to his cage so that it is...
