Heaviest rat and Surgery

Just a general poll.
Basically, how heavy was the heaviest rat you've had surgery on.
(Feel free to be more precise and tell me if they were male/female and what the surgery was for.)

Thankies.

Re: Excessive weight gain in 22 month old male.

I just thought I'd add the only thing that's changed is he's been getting abit of rice cake very now and again, I know these are healthy for rats, but could it be making him bloat?

Excessive weight gain in 22 month old male.

I've got 3 large boys here, they always have been tubby, but all 3 are healthy. I've just picked up one of them and he feels like he's swallowed a brick! I weighed him and in 1 month he's gained over 100g! :o He's still eating, drinking, wandering around as normal. My intention is to get him to the ...

Re: Lump in groin of female rat

No, from what the vet said he feels Echo's wouldn't be benign, and Wispa's is hard to tell. He said he would remove Wispa's for me but he couldn't tell me until he was in there what was going on, but it wasn't as attatched as Echo's. The girls are rescues, and I was told they were 6 months when I re...

Re: Lump in groin of female rat

The girls had a vet appointment today, Echo's lump is inoperable, he had a good feel, it sort of spreads from her bits to her leg. Around her leg is fine, but as soon as you move your fingers to feel around it around her lady bits, it's very attatched. Wispa's lump feels better, and he reckons he co...

Wispa has a lump as I suspected. It's in pretty much the same place as her sister. :-| :-|

Re: Lump in groin of female rat

Thanks for the speedy reply Karly, I guess it would make sense that the mammary tissue reaches down that far, Echo's health is quite good, has an occasional grunty noise but has never needed treatment, it's so few and far between. I've not got good history of rats with lumps, so will probably have i...

Lump in groin of female rat

I thought I felt a lump on one of my girlies a few days ago, but couldn't see it, and then last night I spotted it, it's about the size of a petite poi (garden pea) and right on her lady bits and pieces. She isn't bleeding, and is still toileting fine, eating drinking as normal. She is a rescue girl...

Re: Show Your Free-Range Areas

My rats also have their own room to run around in, which is completely safe for them.

This is it in normal mode

Re: Phot of Ahsleys cage

Hi, that is indeed a Fop Buddy Deluxe, I had one many years ago, and my 2 girls were very happy in it :) You don't need safety pins to make hammocks, you can use keyring clips, or paper clips....or, just a scrap of material! Put a hole in each corner of your hammock, thread through a scrap piece of ...

Oh gosh, Sylvia! I hope you're ok?!! You probably have everything covered but if thre's anything I can do, give me a shout! His run back to the rat room didn't leave him out of breath atall, infact whn I put him back, he scaled the cage and went to the foodbowl to munch on the veg they were given......

Re: Exercise.

I do think your right Sylvia, in that it's genetics as opposed to over-feeding, but he is large! Weighed in yesterday at 940g I would be very interested in the weights of his family members though, I know his mum and aunty at Becky's were small, what sort of weight is Artemis, Sylvia? Jemma, some fa...

Re: Exercise.

Thanks for all the replies My boys are fed the shunamite diet, so I know exactly what he's eating that way, and isn't given any treats (yoggies etc) I've got no stairs here, I live in a flat but I've tired to get him to chase yummy smelling foods, he gives up pretty quickly when he realises he isn't...

Exercise.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place! I have a typical 20 month old lazy boy here, he moves to eat and wash and that's about it! He's a little ( quite abit ) on the large side, and when I have him out, he hides in a corner, washes for England, and then falls asleep. The rats have their own room, ...
