Re: Galastop Articles?

Galastop for prolactin linked mammary lumps and also for the treatment of pituitary tumours. Tamoxifen for oestrogen linked mammary lumps... I think! :D We used galastop with great success with Rammy's lumps as they were milk producing, so most likely prolactin linked, they stopped abscessing and si...

Re: Galastop Articles?

There is some good stuff on the rat health forum. I printed off a few of the threads and took them to the vets with me, it definitely helped get sheena and rammy on galastop. Vic (RatGirl@RatRitz) was also immensely helpful in answering my questions too

Re: Swollen snout - URGENT REPLIES PLEASE

I do hope my little man is able to teach us something and so his death will have at least contributed something to future rats. There was also a junior vet present for the PM so hopefully he/she learnt something from him too. I really admire you for saying that Jude. It must be so hard for you at t...

Re: Yngwie has a lump

Put your positive hat on and you'll be fine

I have exactly the same worries about my hamster-cage-rescue rats - they all have rubbish chests and I always worry that I'll lose them too young. What I'll do without my tinies I just don't know :(

Re: turning a good vet into a good rat vet.....

Give them a copy of the NFRS Rat Health Guide - it's a tenner on the website. I gave my vets a copy of it and they keep it in the staff room! I have my own copy too, and it's invaluable. Some (dare I say most?) vets are very much 'this is what I was taught and I can't deviate', but if you provide en...

Re: Yngwie has a lump

An abscess or cyst is most likely. It's probably too small to aspirate with a needle yet, but see what the vet says. Silly pingy boy!!!

Edited to correct blimmin' iPhone's autocorrections, which were wrong!

Re: Methinks Serenity might have pneumonia

Fortekor and Frusemide - a crumb (approx a 40th of a tablet) of each once or twice a day depending on the degree of heart failure. I'd recommend having a chat with hlcasey for any tips - her Splodge is currently on both drugs and she's been on them for over a year. Splodgy is now getting on in years...

Re: Ruby eyes?

Juno, was a mink roan and had ruby eyes, her sister was a mink hoody and had black eyes. I think the positioning of the blaze on roans influences whether the eyes lighten or not (not making any guarantees  )

Re: Swollen snout - URGENT REPLIES PLEASE

He's been admitted to the vets for 'supportive care' - basically a heat pad and some s/c fluids and maybe another steroid dose later this morning as he only had the last one at 11pm last night. What was suspected to be porphyrin coming from his nose is actually blood so she thinks there could be a ...
