mites? just looking for some advice :)

Hi all, Just looking for some advice really. My boys are getting on a bit now, they're all roughly around 19-20months old. I think in their old age they are becoming more prone to a reduced immune system and as a cause of this 2 of my boys have suffered from mites at different times in the past few ...

Wow. Macrame-ing looks awesome. I'm tempted to learn just so I can make a macrame owl :green: Anywho.. B.o.T... I have done a relatively small cargo net atm, I'm off to buy some more washing line tomorrow and make a new bigger one. But for now, the boys seem to love it... :hearts: http://lh3.ggpht.c...

Mortimer pees all over the place :sickrat:
If it does become an issue, I know the rat warehouse sell vetbed which is like a ratty mattress which absorbs pee and keeps them dry.

Re: Old Rat, how much sleep a day.

My 6 boys are all roughly about 18 months old now. They sleep A LOT! Tbh they're only just getting up now because they know it's tea time! If you've had him checked over by the vet but are still not 100% convinced, just keep an eye on him. :)

Re: is paper ok?

I make the 'pinata's' out of toilet roll tubes, empty bisto tubs and metal bird feeders. I place in shredded printer paper, shredded newspaper and shredded kitchen roll. It's all fine to use. I place the food/treats in between layers :) And they use the paper and toilet roll tubes for bedding afterw...

Re: Yesterday's News Cat Litter

After a year of constantly changing my substrate I have finally decided upon using Yesterday's news cat litter. I also buy the 30lb bags for £11 at my local pet warehouse which imo is not a bad price at all!! After using biocatolet for the past 6 months, I have already noticed there are fewer smells...

Re: What do you use for your rats to chew on?

They appreciate these things more if you leave them on your living room floor and pretend they are valuable: If you pretend to be mortified when they pick something up, exclaim 'oh no that's my family heirloom wine cork! What ever will I do!?!?!' the rats will chomp into it faster than you can imag...

male rats humping

Basically, I know the boys will hump each other to show who's dominant, but most recently Reeves has decided to start humping his brother Solidus who is alpha of the group. Reeves was castrated over 8 months ago now, and nothing has changed in the boys environment or group since we settled in our ne...

Re: Moving House

When my OH and I moved house in January, our flat mates offered to look after our rats for a week while we settled and moved the furniture about. At the end of the week we went back to collect them, flat packed the cage and placed the boys into a pet carrier. The boys lived in the dining room for aw...

Re: Chewing/nibbling on fingernails?

I feel it's a sign of acceptance within the group. I absolutely love my six boys grooming me, they groom my nails, groom the broken cuticles, groom off any dry skin, lick my hands, lick my face, groom my hair, they groom my partners beard, they eat my mascara, they groom my ear lobes, sniff inside m...
