Re: Training rats to be less 'grabby' with food?

My alpha buck Solidus has always been a little bit grabby. I tend to hold on to the treat for longer until he uses his paws to clasp my fingers and then I let go a little bit enabling him to get the treat calmly.. He is pink eyed though so I think that could be part of the grabby nature. I've hardly...

Re: Advice on bulging eye please

My Solidus had a swollen eye in Jan http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk/community/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=131766&p=1318231&hilit=solidus+eye#p1318231 We think the Chloramphenicol eye drops were best at preventing the buldging, since they were the last meds to finish. But that's just my opinion. Good luck at the...

Re: should I encourage rough play with humans?

I chase Reeves with my hand and tickle him etc. He seems to love it! He grabs hold of your fingers with his teeth and does a quick groom afterwards, but he still hasnt broken the skin. I've seen him play with his brothers and his cagemates like this so I feel as he's accepted me as a member of the h...

Re: Exercise Wheel as a bathroom!

I had this problem with Solidus... as he is alpha he took to doing his business on it to remind his brothers it was his... (even though I was cleaning it every day). I've since removed it and put it in the playpen instead. Seeing his business fly about when you are eating is slightly off putting... ...

Re: Free range time wasted

I have some white faced hardboard that i put on the floor as a base to my playpen (similiar to that found on the back of viv's) and i actually just wipe it down with a sensitive baby wipe after the boys have been playing around on it. They havent been able to find an angle to chew it yet...

Re: Carefresh?

From my local pet shop its £3.30 for 6 litres but they can order the bigger bags in for me if needed. I've seen it online for relatively cheap on petplanet for 24 litres at £10.24... although I've not used them before so don't know how reliable they are etc.

Re: Carefresh?

My experience regarding litters; I used Biocatolet & Carefresh for about 6 months, it was great at first and I could get it for relatively cheap from the local pet warehouse, but it seemed to stick to the bottom of the cage and turn into a mass pulp even after 3 days which proceeded with me doing a ...

Re: Solidus' eye

Hi all, just thought I would give you an update. Solidus has been on the meds for a full 7 days, he has responded to them extremely well since day 2. He went for his check up at 9am this morning and the vet was happy by the outcome - his eye had stopped swelling and reduced massively, and with no si...

Re: Heinz Cook at Home sauces

Thanks for the reply! :D I would be giving them their usual dry mix too and make it up with vegetables and pasta alongside it I reckon. Just wanted to make sure it was safe, I wouldn't make a regular thing out of it mind, just didn't want to waste them if they could be used as a meal/addition as suc...
