Re: Lethargic with Swollen nose and Increased porph/blood?

I just hope the vets dagnosis was correct as I feel so guilty that I couldn't do anything to make her better :( Debz :dumbogirly: From the sounds of what you say and having lost Rookie to a similar thing and having recently lost Iris to pneumonia I'm sure your vet has diagnosed correctly and you've...

Re: Would this Blue have clotting issues?

She does look BB to me on my screen but I am far from an expert on colourings! However I have had a blue with confirmed clotting issues (vet did a nick test under anaesthetic) and at a later date he had blood taken from his tail to investigate weight loss. It was very difficult to get blood because ...

Re: Lethargic with Swollen nose and Increased porph/blood?

Sorry to hear Poppy isn't well. It sounds like something very similar to what my lad Rookie had a few weeks ago and unfortunately he didn't make it :( Sorry to be blunt...never a subtle way of saying these things. Have a read of the thread from his illness here The post mortem essentially said a sep...

Re: Doxy/Baytril combo?

Best way to split small tablets is to crush them into powder first then divide them into equal portions on a smooth surface with a sharp object (can't beat mirror and razor blade actually - although if you have house-mates explaining what you are doing first is a good idea  ). I currently use ...

Re: Doxy/Baytril combo?

They need to be given about an hour apart. When giving doxy I usually start with 1/8 tablet twice a day but have given 1/6 twice a day for very bad or chronic infections. When giving doxy I still go by the 0.1ml baytril per 100g rat as a starting point, but again will increase this dose if it's a ve...

Re: Explorer/Ferret Nation/High Rise Mammal

I'm trying to make my layouts a bit more challenging seeing as I have a couple of rather lazy boys and for the first time in ages no HLD in the group! I also have a pingy hyper boy who I think is relishing all the 'stuff' Here is this week's layout... Top half: http://i14.photobucket.com/album...

Re: Euthanasia methods?

I think I'll definitely ask to have the rat kept in their own carrier and bedding next time as it seems this makes a huge difference.

Re: Euthanasia methods?

I'm bumping this thread back up as Amzy and I have recently been discussing this via PM having both had several rats pts in recent weeks/months in different ways and we've been trying to decide which methods we feel most comfortable with. I remembered that there had previously been a thread on the s...

Re: Seizures, fits - Heart? Meds?

I'm so sorry, you really are having a tough time at the moment. I've seen Kerry before too and she is good. She put one of mine to sleep (think it was Murray) and she was good at looking at all the options and helping me make the decision. It must be so hard losing 2 together :( As for the lump spre...

This is what I do too. Even I can't get through a 100ml bottle in 4 weeks and I should have shares in the stuff

Rookie's post mortem results

I have posted an overview of Rookie's post mortem results on the thread from when he was ill. Just thought I'd flag it up as I know it's been a little while now since it all happened.

Re: Swollen snout

Apologies for the delay, we've moved house since Rookie died so everything has been a bit disorganised. Anyway, here is a brief overview of the post mortem results . If anyone is interested in reading the full report feel free to PM me with your email address and I can email a scanned copy. Spleen: ...
