Re: Foods that rats can't eat?

Hahaha! I thought that was your name but didn't want to write it in case I'd remembered it wrong. Sorry! Guess I should have been less lazy and gone and got the book to check. Thanks though for the book, as I said it's my rat nutrition bible and I love it!

Re: how should I play this?

I'm glad too, it's always nice to know that there are people looking after some rats who haven't had the best of time so far. I once stole (or ratnapped!) a rat from some people I knew who kept it alone and in squalor with hardly any food. The poor thing was riddled with mites, skinny and bit people...

Re: It's intro time again! 1st time I've had blood though...

I'm not an expert so someone else might come along and disagree...but I have seen on other rat forums in the past people advising such action. I think the theory is that if the other 3 bond the bully will recognise that their previous buddy has befriended the new babies and so will realise there's n...

Re: Foods that rats can't eat?

If you go to the Shunamite rats website you can buy the Scuttling Gourmet book. When I bought this Acrorats was shut and the Rat Warehouse was out of stock. I couldn't find it anywhere else so I emailed the author (forgot her name) direct from that website and she Paypal invoiced me and mailed a cop...

Re: Litter training

I have heard of loads of people litter training older rats so give it a go. I personally find it really easy to house train rats but have had little success so far with litter training within the cage! I have 4 perfectly house trained rats, they use the litter trays (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs) whe...

Re: Just had to share :)

I just got 2 rescue boys home yesterday! One of them is already quite good at sitting for a cuddle and a stroke and he boggled today which was so lovely! However, they're both still a bit nervous and won't come out to greet me, they just stay snuggled in a towel in their cage. Although they will let...

Re: Advice on nervous biting rat

Hi Jenbo, I think if you use some tactics that work for taming new babies to get him used to being picked up it might help. Start by offering him your hand (in a fist if he nips) so he can smell it and so he's not threatened. Then get him to the stage where he's confident enough to take treats from ...

Re: a few questions

It is definitely best to have an area where you're happy for them to free range cos they need plenty of time out of their cage to exercise, explore etc. We use our hallway, stairs and landing cos there are no wires apart from a couple that we can easily make inaccessible to them. Do you have a room ...

Re: Advice on GMR and Intros Please!

I have a neutered male who lives with 3 females. Veterinary advice is to wait around 3 weeks after being neutered before beginning to introduce him to females in case of any residual sperm. Various research suggests anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks post op though. They also have to be at least 8 weeks old...
