Bullying....

Just want a bit of advice, since this is my first time having rats. Toffee is currently recovering from a bite to her jaw that occured whilst Toffee and Inky had to share a travel cage overnight and most of the day because the petshop sold me a cage that had too wide bars.. they could get out. When ...

Re: Taming Help

I got my first pair of rats on friday, and what i do is pick them up into their travel cages then carry them through to the bathroom (since thats the most secure room in my flat) and let them have a run around. I wore my big 'narnia' furry coat with todays run and they kept crawling around behind me...

Re: Shy rats

Thanks for posting the picture, did you manage to get a refund? Yeah I got a refund, though took me a bit of complaining. They were like 'oh i dont think a rat could get through those bars' and he asked another guy who worked there and he agreed. I just straight out said 'no, they can get through. ...

Re: Shy rats

It was a superpet cage, not sure which. If the rats can close their mouths and eat/drink ok, and as long as their teeth aren't growing at odd angles i wouldn't worry. Rat incisors, well the bottom ones, are really quite long. Gnawing is good, but just eating is good for grinding down their teeth, a...

Re: Shy rats

Toffee doesnt seem in pain or too stressed about her wound but I am going to ring up the vet tomorrow morning and get some advice, i might have to bring them in. They're now curled up asleep in their sleepy box, but here's a picture of the new cage setup. I got some wood in there for them to chew on...

Re: Shy rats

Ive bought a new cage which is a ferret/rat cage from pets at home, since it was open on sunday. The place i got the other cage from is shut so i'll have to return that tomorrow. I've got another problem though now. Toffee has a big bite on her lower jaw. Luckly one of my friends who is experienced ...

Re: Shy rats

You're right, i was panicing. Its my first time being alone in a new flat, and having the responsibility of rats as well just made it a bit more intimidating.. I was so frightened Inky was going to run off under the fridge or something :( They were a bit of an impulse buy, but I have been waiting ab...

Re: Shy rats

Ok i just came across a HUGE problem. I mean really bad. I just walked in and saw Inky sat ONTOP of the cage, and then she darted down the side and through the bars..... the petshop obviously sold me a cage that is not suitable for rats. I've had to put them in the travel cage for now... I just can'...

Re: Shy rats

I'm not sure how old they are actually, i didnt ask the petshop keeper. They still seem quite young. They're both hooded dumbo rats, one black and white with black streak down her back (Named Inky), and the other tan and white, with a tan spot on her back (Named Toffee). I did manage to correctly sc...

Re: Shy rats

I'll bring them to the bathroom and see how it goes, but if they just sit in a corner i'll let them go back into their sleeping box and put them back. Wish me luck :)

Shy rats

I could do with some advice. I got my rats only yesterday so they're still very timid and they are currently hiding in their sleeping box. I did kind of screw up yesterday with trying to socialise with them with trying to pick them up from over the top, but i realise that is wrong now.. scoop from u...
