Re: Cute things that your rats do.......

Matilda fell asleep on my shoulder once :hearts: that completely made me melt. Partially covered by my jumper like a little blanket.

Safe plants?

Hi guys! I was sondering if there's anything I can plant in my digging boxes to make them a bit more exciting for the rats? I was thinking along the lines of things you can easily pick up in the supermarket like cress or herb plants like basil and mint and stuff. Or anything at all I can plant in th...

Re: Avoiding 'favourites'

I wouldn't say I have 'favourites' but I have a heart rat  and that doesn't mean I liked her more than all my other rats, just that we had a really special bond I've not experienced with any other living being so far. Hopefully that doesn't mean it's a one off I'd like to experience it again. ...

Re: advice please - tiny lump

Hi I'm afraid I can't offer any advice but I'm taking Jupiter to the vets tomoroow afternoon, he's had a tiny lump on his left side below armpit rejion for a little while and now there is a second tiny lump next to it. I'll let you know what my vet says tomorrow incase it's of any help. I imagine sh...

Re: A rex for me soon?

I've only had a very small selection of rat varieties actually, albino rex, a mink hooded, 2 black hooded, a grey(?) roan, russian blue agouti and seal point siamese. I've had both dumbo and top eared rats. My wishlist however.... Black self, ivory or BEW, topaz, MOAR rexes and roans, chocolat...

Re: First spay...Advice re: what to expect, aftercare etc.

Good luck with all your girls! How are they at the moment? I'm just back from Abigail's post op check and she's doing fine, not noticed any more blood in her urine for a while as well so hopefully the kidney meds are working! She's back to her old self, hoping she'll improve slightly as my vet said ...

Re: First spay...Advice re: what to expect, aftercare etc.

Metacam worked when mixed with cake :) I've been giving Abi 5-10 minute free ranges a couple of times a day once she was 24 clear of her op, this morning I tried her on my bed with the other 2 and she got a bit snotty with Matilda and Jupiter immediately stuck his head under her to have a look so I ...

Re: First spay...Advice re: what to expect, aftercare etc.

I think the main worry is just that the others might groom or bother her wound site but I'm not really comfortable leaving her on her own for up to 2 weeks. I don't mind going through the hassle of having to completely re-introduce her or anything if being seperate is what's good for her, I'm just s...

Re: First spay...Advice re: what to expect, aftercare etc.

I'm really glad Whisper is doing so well :) when is her post op check? I'm taking Abigail back on Wednesday. She's been like a different rat today! I felt so awful yesterday because sadly it's not been a complete fix with the kidneys being a problem as well and she was so clearly uncomfortable and s...

Re: First spay...Advice re: what to expect, aftercare etc.

Good news and bad news really. The spay was a complete sucess and desperately needed doing as her uterus was very haemhorragic and her ovaries cystic so that's good riddance to bad rubbish! Wish they'd take out mine... Unfortunatley the vet checked her kidneys as well, one she oculdn't inspect throu...

Re: First spay...Advice re: what to expect, aftercare etc.

Abigail's going in for a spay tomorrow :( I never had one done before either so i'm quite anxious but I have a really good vet and I trust her. What kind of set up have you got for Whisper now that she's post op?

Re: Help with writing a list for new owners please

I would add a 'Rats On A Budget' section, with pics of all the fab things available to use or modify from places like pound shops and Wilkinsons, that way potential new owners are not overwhelmed by cost and may be more willing to spend the cash on the real essentials - a big cage and (I forgot to ...
