What is Tiff doing??

I think Tiffany is the alpha rat out of her and Molly although i am not entirely sure since i have seen both have dominant behavior Sometimes Tiffany lays on her back and sniffs Molly's face or lays on her back doing something to annoy Molly because she usually does this in their igloo so i can't ac...

Re: Corynebacterium kutscheri

Thanks everyone, i feel a lot better about keeping her on ab. I'm taking her tomorrow to discuss a stronger ab or to discuss keeping her on them long term. My mum was worried i was keeping her alive for myself and i started to wonder about it, obviously i want Molly to stay with me for as long as po...

Re: Corynebacterium kutscheri

Like wise, Molly hasn't lost her appetite but she is skin and bones and so fluffy, she's also really lethargic :( It's only been a few days but she's gained some much needed weight, i think she still shows symptoms but she seems brighter. I'm keeping an eye on her but i will take her to see if there...

Re: Corynebacterium kutscheri

I had a read of that already, i am suspecting my girl has that... I want to do some research before asking the vet.. Is it safe for rats to be on baytril or any other ab long term? She was on baytril for 2 weeks and when she finished her course she dramatically got worse showing those symptoms a par...

when do you know its time?

Yesterday i noticed one of my girls doesn't look herself. She's always fluffy and her eyes look a bit sunken at times, she brightens up when i offer her food and she eats and drinks perfectly fine.. Her breathing is quite fast, she does suffer with resp problems and she has recently come off baytril...

Re: I think my rats will hate me :(

I put a bit of sugar to help hide the taste and it is a success! Probably a good way to get one of my girls to trust me again :) They've been very good so far, chocolate milk sounds like a good idea, will try that too! Thank you everyone for replying, it is very interesting to read what other people...

Re: I think my rats will hate me :(

They always have food in their cage, I will try that method and put it in set times because I don't actually ever see them eating their eat food And I've never tried baytril, I have heard it's disgusting which is why I normally put it on food, but they won't eat it now.. Tuna sounds like a good idea...

I think my rats will hate me :(

Cut a long story short, my rats are on ab and normally they have it on food and it's never failed.. I bought yoghurt this morning because they no longer touch the food with the ab on it, yoghurt didn't work because they wouldn't touch it. So.. I got my mum to help me to get in directly in to their m...

Re: Bar Chewing???

One of my girls does that when i put her back in the cage after free range. She stays by the door for ages wanting out again and if i ignore her long enough she starts chewing the bars before giving up

Her cage is full of toys so she shouldn't really be bored!!

Re: Really not sure.. Update :)

Hi Everyone, Thank you everyone who posted. I took Molly to the vet and he basically said it is some sort of infection in her bladder. He gave her an injection and she will be taking ab for 2 weeks but next week a check up. She has perked up a lot since having the injection. I am keeping my fingers ...

Re: dislikes handling

My Eddie was a nightmare for the first year and a bit of his life. He would bite if you tried to handle him and would always run away, he is a nervous boy but one day i got fed up of him being nervous after having him over a year so i would let him bite if wanted but i would cuddle him for an hour e...

Re: Really not sure..

I found a vet in Cobham which is 10min from where i live and i will phone in the morning since their website says they deal with 'exotic' pets too... I suppose right now she is 'healthy' since she is still eating and drinking. But i really worry with her resp problem and an opperation  I just w...

Re: Really not sure..

Thank you so much for your advice. Obviously this is such a hard choice to make because of her age, but her being well is all i want. I really worry because she does have resp problems, would that be a bigger risk?? I cant stop crying, the thought of losing her. I feel either way her only option may...
