Re: A mix for a 2 year old podge + 2 8 week olds?

That sounds like a good idea. When I've read what people are saying about making mixes I just get confused, I dont understand what the purpose of each thing is, and what things are needed and what are not. I have been feeding the little ones some egg, fish, chicken and things like that but I dont re...

A mix for a 2 year old podge + 2 8 week olds?

I've always fed nugget and muesli, and given them fruit, veg, seeds, rice, pasta etc as treats but have decided after reading a lot of the topics on here about feeding that because of a lot of health issues we had with Milo who we lost recently, that I need to change for a diet thats the best I can ...

Re: do boys rats smell more then girls?

My boys smell lovely, and I agree I could probably tell them apart on smell alone. My other half thinks I'm a bit crazy sniffing rats.... he's probably right

Re: How do you know if your rat is overweight?

I could be wrong but I believe for an adult male they should weigh between 400-600g. My Jimmy's definately overweight he was about 750g  but is now on a diet. His brother was about 450g when we lost him but at his heaviest 550g. Do you know how much your ratty weighs?

Re: My Christmas cage - *share pictures*

Hehe I love this, made me smile :D I must admit I do agree, I think my boys are seem quite fond of christmas.. well maybe not the concept of it but certainly the wrapping paper, baubles, tinsle which all get stolen and stashed behind my sofa! :o You've inspired me to add some festive additions to th...

My podge needs to go on a diet...

Jimi has always been a big boy, but his brother Milo developed a PT and because he was deteriorating so bad we didnt realise that Jimi was gaining more and more weight. Sadly we had to let Milo go on wednesday :dumbohalo: We got 2 little babies about a week ago to distract Jimi from losing his broth...

Re: Can someone explain what 'PT' is please?

He had a steroid injection about 3 weeks ago and was his bright perky self again for about 3/4 days, then gradually went back down hill again, so I know the steroids definitely gave him a good boost. I'll ask about galastrop at the vets when I take him on friday, and I'll have a look into those herb...

Re: Can someone explain what 'PT' is please?

I dont think I was quite expecting that  , though I guess it really does make sense. How can a little guy have so many problems without there being 1 cause for most of them. He looks like he's suffering, do you know if he would be? Can anything be done for him? I am realistic about it and I hav...

Can someone explain what 'PT' is please?

I could be on the complete wrong lines as I have no idea what 'PT' is but its something I saw mentioned in a few posts when I was searching for 'spasm'. I had pretty much decided that Milo was going to be put to sleep but after several hours of searching the internet I seem to have convinced myself ...

Re: Companion for my boy after loss of his brother?

Thank you for your replies. I had planned on posting about Milos problems a while ago when it first started, but then he got other problems and I just dont think its fair to put him through anymore. I think getting rescues would be better for me (having them all similar ages), and I think Jimi would...

Companion for my boy after loss of his brother?

I've got 2 18 month old boys - Jimi + Milo. Milo's always had a lot of problems and got poorly regularly, about 3 months ago he started grasping at his mouth, after taking him to the vets a few times + trying to look in his mouth I found he had a tooth infection so we took him to the vets and got hi...

Re: Please help, poorly ratty!

Thank you for your reply, he's all better now! I think your right, I managed to get him to have a drink but he seemed to struggle swallowing so I gave him a yoghurt drop thinking something reasonably soft would help if he was choking. And it did! He perked up almost instantly, but it was sad to see ...

Re: few milimetres of bone at tip of tail exposed

Have a look at the other ones tail because I know both my boys have about 1 or 2 mil of what looks like bone at the end, exactly like you described. They've always had it - the tip of their tails sort of rounds off and thers some fine hairs sticking out and what looks like a really thin bit of point...

Re: Please help, poorly ratty!

He's gone an hidden himself behind the sofa now and he's still doing the gagging thing but he isnt moving anymore he seems to just be resting for a little while. I have tried to look in his mouth to make sure he's not got anything stuck in there but he wouldnt let me, and have tried to get him to li...

Please help, poorly ratty!

My rat Jimi seems quite ill. I noticed about 30 mins ago that he'd come out into the living room and was resting his head on the floor (they get free roam of the living room) this is very unusual for him as he usually only makes an appearance if he's running off somewhere. I thought he was sleeping ...
