Re: Doe or buck?

At the risk of sounding like an utter fool, human males have nipples as well as females, so don't male rats have nipples? Sorry, I've only ever owned female rats lol. But she looks like a doe to me :)

Re: sudden death..

I'm so sorry to hear that, I feel like crying just from reading this. As Sati said, sometimes they just pass on for seemingly no reason, so don't blame yourself. You clearly love your babies and she would've known how much she was cared for and loved. These things unfortunately happen, and it seems ...

Re: Swimming?

Well my girls started off sounding a lot like yours in behaviour, they didn't have a problem being deposited in water etc, but the only difference is that they would actively seek out anything wet to splash in. I've since discovered that they love swimming :) I started off in the sink, but there was...

Re: Checking teeth?

In case anyone wanted to try it, I made a little photo demonstration Thank you for doing that, I really appreciate it :) (tbh I'm a bit shocked people can't do this). I take it you mean the teeth-checking, not the photo demonstration? Its just a bit tricky when you have an insanely wriggling ...

Re: Checking teeth?

Thanks so much to everyone. It was just a normal height bed, so glad to hear that's not a serious fall. I'll definitely have a peek when she yawns and will practise as well. giving my oldest boy a thorough health check is a bit like wrestling a slippery eel wearing a well-lubricated fur coat  T...

Checking teeth?

Layla had a fall from the bed today :( She seems fine, she just froze for half a second in shock before moving on like nothing happened. I freaked out and checked her over as thoroughly as I could - except she wouldn't let me open her mouth. Obviously I don't want her to have chipped a tooth, but sh...

I was actually just about to post this exact same question! So we can relax in the fact that we're not the only ones with hiccupping rats

Are baby wipes safe?

Hey, I've heard of a few people using baby wipes to wipe down dirty rats, but are they safe for rattie faces? I have a PEW who occasionally gets a bit of porph build up, and because she's white it's really obvious, so would baby wipes be safe to use around her eyes to clean them? Or would a damp tis...

Re: Contagious eye infection?

That's exactly the same as what I've been having - both my girls have porph in one eye, the same eye on both, and squinty - I rang the vet who said to just bathe with warm salty water (one teaspoon to a glass of water) for a few days and if it doesn't clear up then to take them in, and apparently he...

What colour is this?

I can't work out what colour my Layla is, and to make it easier (sarcasm) she keeps changing! When I first got her she appeared white self with ruby eyes, but compared to her PEW sister you could see she was slightly darker. Over time she started darkening, still self, but then she started getting a...

Re: My rats sooo very hate me ): cat owners please help

Also, can anyone tell me what is the best way to tell a cat off? He doesn't try to get in a cage just yet but really likes watching the rats. Watching is just normal cat behaviour - they like to watch everything, which is why you often see cats sitting in windows watching the world go by :D This do...
